I have been reading some parts of the Bible codes. I was wondering if anyone believes these? All of the codes seem very possible and The wars and nuclear terrorism could for sure happen. Supposedly it all starts August 3rd which is less than half a year away. Is there anyone that is really into these codes and understands how they are made and everything it takes to come to these codes? Please I need some information. I would also like to see what everyone believes or dont believe about the end of times? Some comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Bible codes, also known as Torah codes, are words, phrases and clusters of words and phrases that some people believe are meaningful and exist intentionally in coded form in the text of the Bible. These codes were made famous by the book The Bible Code, which claims that these codes can predict the future. All of these claims are strongly denied by skeptics and many religious groups

The primary method by which purportedly meaningful messages are extracted is the Equidistant Letter Sequence (ELS). To obtain an ELS from a text, choose a starting point (any letter) and a skip (a number, possibly negative). Then, beginning at the starting point, select letters from the text at equal spacing as given by the skip. For example, the bold letters in this sentence form an ELS for the word SAFEST. (The skip is -4. Spaces and punctuation are ignored.)

If you ask me, I dont believe in them. I believe God has said what he wanted to say in the Bible straightforward and he doesnt need to mix up letters into a code to prove his point to me. laugh.gif

Many people compare Bible (or Torah) Codes to people such as Nostradamus. People around the world believe the things that Nostradamus 'predicted' to be true. Just like Nostradamus, however, Bible codes are very vauge and are therefore left open to a wide-spread string of interrpretations.

Personally, I don't hold too much faith in Bible codes and Nostradamus, but at the same time I can't disprove their validity. I'm sure there is more evidence to support the realisticness of them then I came come up with to disprove them, but that doesn't mean their real nor does that mean their valid. All it means is that it's up to the individual person to decide for themselves if they want to believe it or not.

Thats the problem with Bible codes and Nostradomus. They arent falsifiable.

Thanks for the replies. I am not real sure if i believe the codes are true or not. 5aret, that was very helpful that seems to be really random and could all be chance. It is interesting though. Thanks again.

course...the bible was written by man, in the words of god...mayhaps the codes are some of gods own personal actions incarnated into text form....just to be a pain in the behind! hahaha. yeah I wouldn't put much concern in the codes either.

I havn't looked into them enough to say if I believe them or not. I will however, say that "those predictions are vague" is often used as a last resort by skeptics. Not always, but oh too often. Alot of predictions are symbolic. Such as "great birds of the sky" could mean "airplanes".

They'd probably call THAT too vague. Well, it's not in my opinion. What more can you draw from it? Tank? Fish? House? Car? Dog?... Nope.

You can do the Bible Codes thing with any large book. They've even done it with Moby Dick.

Besides, what with the changes the Bible has gone through, even the SLIGHTEST change of a word would muck up any intended codes.

Thanks for all of your replies. I guess we will see when August gets here if these codes are correct or not. Its kinda cool to think the world might be ending soon. I think that the codes are taken from the original text of the Bible but who knows what THE original Bible is cuz it has been translated so many times no one can be for sure. Thanks again for all of the helpful comments.
