user posted imageScientists have devised an experiment to test whether out-of-body experiences close to death are a real phenomenon or just a trick being played by the brain. Many patients whose hearts have stopped beating claim to have hovered above their bodies and looked down on themselves as others worked to resuscitate them. Mainstream scientists believe these visions are a fabrication of the mind. Dr Peter Fenwick, from the Institute of Psychiatry in London, plans to test this view at 25 hospitals across the UK. He wants to place suspended pictures from the ceilings of accident and emergency units that only someone high up in the room will be able to see. Patients that survive cardiac arrest will be interviewed to see if they have had an out-of-body experience and whether they saw the pictures. "We reckon a year will give us 100 people who leave their bodies," Dr Fenwick told the British Association's annual science festival, held this year at the University of Salford, Greater Manchester. If none of the patients could recall the pictures, Dr Fenwick said, it would suggest the experiences were not real.

"It will show that there is some mechanism in the brain that is creating these scenarios." He added: "I come at this from the point of view of asking whether there is really a phenomenon here to look at. "It is of interest because the brain may not be functioning when it happens... but we need real data."

This looks promising.

I've seen Dr Fenwick talk on this matter, and he's objective, admitting that searching for the truth is made a lot harder by liers or those fooled by their senses.

But at the same time, his idea of placing the pictures seems a good one.

Have to see how it goes.

How absurd !

He won't have his answer until he experiences it himself.

by the way, intellectual and materialistic people have a blind eye for the truth.

just one question....is it just me or is there a flaw in this

he is putting the pictures on the ceiling.....

but people claim to be looking down on themselves....not looking up......which by the way ,if they look up when they survive they will see the ceiling..

better if he put something on the legs of the person....then when they look down they would see it.......

of course who am i to question dr fenwick whistling2.gif

The pictures can only be seen from the ceiling.

Get it? blink.gif Someone floating upwards from their body?

Pay attention at the back.

Not being part of the research team, I couldn't tell you the exact measurements, but I see you get the general idea.

And consider yourself excused. wink2.gif

oh... sounds amusing...
Mr. Salt
Bigsteff has a point though, they say they see thier bodies, therefore they are looking down at them selves. Sure they might start out looking up, but thats beside the point, they see themselves if they get up and look down right? So why not put the pictures on the patients body? uppydown.gif

What people who have had an out-of-body-experience often relate is the sensation of floating to the top of the room, looking down on their body, and at other people in the room.

Why these people claim this, who knows? Maybe they did, maybe they're making it up?

But this is the most common account, and that's why the test is set up for that.

Sticking the picture on the patient? huh.gif

Might they, or someone with them, see it? Remember, the test is there to catch out liars, as well.
