HIM Haile Selassie I, (JAH) was the Emperor (1930–1974) of Ethiopia. He was a direct decendent of King Solomon. Selassie was the first black member of the United Nations, and is the religious symbol for God incarnate among the Rastafari movement.
Had many names :Coronation of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia' King of Kings, Lord of Lords, conquering Lion of Judah. JAH JAH.
For many Rastas, smoking marijuana (known as ganja, herb, collie, or lambs bread) is a spiritual act, often accompanied by Bible study; they consider it a sacrament that cleans the body and mind, exalts the consciousness, facilitates peacefulness, and brings them closer to Jah. The burning of the herb is often said to be essential "for it will sting in the hearts of those that promote and perform evil and wrongs". Many believe that cannabis originated in Africa, and that it is a part of their African culture that they are reclaiming.
The Rastas were never worried by Haile Selassie never claiming to be God, saying that the real God would never claim to be so just to get worldly acclaim and power. During the Emperor's visit to Jamaica, he told the Rastafarian community leaders that they should not emigrate to Ethiopia until they had liberated the people of Jamaica. After the visit, the Emperor is said to have told Ethiopian Orthodox Archbishop Yeshaq: "There is a problem in Jamaica… Please, help these people. They are misunderstanding, they do not understand our culture… They need a church to be established and you are chosen to go."
Since then. Jamacia now has more churches than any other country per square mile.
Psalms 104:14 that says, "He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle and herb for the service of man, that he may bring forth food out of the earth." Rastafarians also say it was found growing at the grave of King Solomon in the Bible.
My Question is to any of you. Although ganja is popular among Rasta's, did Hallie Selassie I himself smoke Ganja?
