agreed, not much more to discuss, except maybe why people don't believe in them, and the answer is quite simply werewolves sound too preposterous to exist...though I have been wrong in the past.

The idea of Werewolves probably stems from when Christian missionaries observed ancient Pagan rituals, which involved wearing the pelt of a wolf in the belief they could gain power from the wolfs soul.

Feb 27 2006, 04:55 AM
I believe in them for a couple of reasons, though i'll only say one. They could be just wolves, that grew bigger than others & people that were traveling around who saw them thought of them as Werewolves. Because it is quite possible for an animal to grow larger than other's than the rest of their kind.

Wheee! Sure is.
How many people believe and why...The town of my birth, whatever the current population (probably quite close to the population of back then), as well as many other people in my country. We all believe in werwulves, I will not claim that I have seen one here to avoid aving to repost on this forum in the event that one of you should ask, but I will never claim that I have not seen any. Also, a werwulf is, in all truth, a person who becomes a wolf, by means of magic, such as an enchanted pelt or an ointment, or by a curse, such as being turned into a werwulf by another one, or by drinking from a stream at the same time as regular wolves. Of course, in Romania we are famous for the vampyre, which is not actually any more well known than ghosts, witches, werwulves, dragons, zmeu...or anything else in our country, but France is the world capitol of the werwulf.

Not always, too much confidence can lead one down the wrong path.
i have been doing extensive research on the matter and it is documented on numerous amounts of animal attacks and other violent casings that werewolves are in fact real but there are different types of werewolves. There are three types of werewolves to be precise. One is called Lycanthropic Disorder where the subject believes he is a wolf but never transforms. The second is the full transformation such as you see in horror stories ( there are two different types of transformers, the Alpha and Beta or the Voulantary transformers and the Invoulantary transformers), and finally the third which is a spirtual werewolf where the subject emmits his spirit from the body and the spirit takes the form of the wolf, or whatever their totem or spiritual animal is.
i learned a lot from you.

I think that someone on one of the many other werewolf threads on here put a good point forward, mainly being the kind of power, and energy required for a man to transform into a wolf, even down to the proteins in the body, not to mention the stress on bone structure etc, and that the kind of pressure that would create would destroy the host outright. I'm gonna see if I can find it...

Sorry for not getting back for a while, I got a bit lost in so many other subforums around here
My point to my above statement is that there aren't just Werewolves in mythology... Most other major ancient civilisations had their Werefolks too. Weretigers in China and India etc.
It's a known fact that some people are affected by the full moon, hence 'Lunatics'. Combine that with the dangers of the local wildlife just outside your village or campfire and you have an excellent night-time story to either keep little children in line, or persuade someone to buy a round

I, being pagan, believe in shapeshifting, but not exactly the kind that most people think of. Besides, isn't one theory that the werewolf legends came from the Native American and other ancient cultures belief of shapeshifting? If so, the it wasn't anything bad. . .and you didn't turn into the animal so much as take on it's attributes. Only the most skilled shamans were supposively able to actual change their physical form. . and that's speculated to have just been a type of glamour.
