Woman falls 25ft down well

A woman who fell 25ft down a well - was saved by her five-year-old son.

Tracey Fletcher, from Warwick, got out of her car to remove a pallet from the middle of the road as she thought it a hazard to drivers.

But it had been placed over the well to stop people falling in and as Tracey, 36, tried to remove it, she slipped and fell down.

Her Tom was left in the car with sisters Olivia, six and Eleanor, six months. He heard her screams and ran 200 yards to a neighbour's house.

Tracey was rescued by fire crews and only suffered from small cuts and bruises.

According to The Sun she said: "I stopped the car to move a pallet, which looked like an obstruction.

"I didn't know it was a well and as I moved the pallet I fell, but at that point only down to my arms because the hole was so small and I was wedged in.

"But whatever was keeping me dangling soon gave way and I fell all the way down landing on my feet. It was painful, my right leg was hurting, but I was more worried about my children who I'd left in the car with the engine running.

"I didn't know Tom would take the initiative to ask for neighbours for help, but I'm so proud of him for doing it."

Warwickshire County Council said it was a private road but council engineers had now put a metal plate over the hole.

Should have been marked with caution markers . . .

Luckily she wasn't seriously injured and her son knew to get help.

Well that is definately unacceptable. If the pallet was there for a reason it should have been bolted down or at least tied down and locked with a warning sign.

Good on the little tike, he`s defintely a little hero!

Why they hell would they just cover this extremely dangerous hole in the road with a metal palet and not even mark what it's there for?
I'm glad this didn't turn out alot worse.

This was on my local news. Apparently the man who covered the hole had phoned the local council to cover it properly, but as usual they didn't show up until the day after the woman fell down the hole.
