Post/Recommend your favorite Sci-fi film! Ok, shalt we start with me.

My personal favorite has to be Gattaca is a 1997 science fiction drama film by director/screenwriter Andrew Niccol, starring Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Jude Law. RATING. 10/10

The film presents a retro-futurist vision of a society driven by liberal eugenics where genetic engineering and in-vitro fertilization have allowed engineering of children (including factors such as gender, intelligence, life expectancy, hair color, height, and the elimination of most genetic diseases). People who are conceived by "traditional" sexual reproduction ("faith love") form a poor underclass with inferior genes, collectively known as "in-valids", who are delegated to the lower ends of the social ladder.

The movie draws on concerns over technological developments which facilitate in vitro fertilization, genetic engineering and diagnosis of genetic disorders, and the possible consequences of such technology for society.

"Star Wars" any of them, "Star Trek", any of them, "Starship Troopers", and let's not forget "Doctor Who". I know, I know, it's not a film, it's a tv series but, I like it just the same. Not just the newer episodes on SciFi either. I evenlike the older ones from years ago that used to come on PBS stations here in the U.S. Also, I'm real partial to "Red Dwarf". That one keeps me in stitches. I wish that they'd show it more regular though. I never know when it's going ot be on!

There are lot's of sci-fi movies I love but no.1 has to be Blade Runner (the Directors Cut of course).
Paranoid Android
My favourite science fiction movie has to be Serenity. Following on from the mildly successful (well, not really) and now cut tv-show Firefly, Serenity follows the crew of the starship Serenity as the members overcome obstacles and uncover the truth the government is trying to hide.

My only regret about this movie is that there will be no follow-up movie or tv-show, which they really should do, since I've yet to find a single person who did not like the show once they started watching.

So that's my number 1 sci-fi movie. I'd also like to make a plug for AI. It's a more traditional sci-fi, asking questions of the nature of humanity and technology as they relate together (the ultimate cyborg, so to speak).

And let's not forget an honourable mention for Star Trek IV. Yeah, most of the Star Trek movies were great, but number 4 has always held a special place in my heart (not entirely sure why).

Star Wars is also amongst my favourite's, but for some reason, i consider this more in the realm of fantasy than sci-fi.

You know, I could go on forever, so I'm just going to stop typing right here and now.

Regards, PA

Star Trek IV (I agree PA, I don't know why, but this is my favorite, maybe because we see "The Three" interacting in much the same way they did in TOS)

Gattaca is a great one. I don't know if this is considered science fiction, but I LOVE "Minority Report". It's so good that I even liked Tom Cruise, which I usually don't.

I liked both of these "thinker" films. I know some of the action craving noble warrior sci-fi fans gave them both the thumbs down though.

Forbidden Planet is one of my favourites.

Although they may be classed horror, I found the SF in the Aliens series to be very good.

Silent Running is another I mentioned in another thread long ago.

And is everyone here too embarrassed to mention 2001: A Space Odyssey? It was (and is) a classic piece of film and groundbreaking in many ways.
brave_new_world
My favourite is probably " Ace Ventura when nature calls".

Here's a couple that are a bit of a cult classic type thing. Try " Killer clowns from outer space"/sci-fi horror/funny. Or "Hell comes to frog town", this is a bit of a warrior/sexy movie staring Roddy pipper from the old WWF days. or "space hunter", pretty well done for an 80's film yup Molly Ringwald was in lol. Givem a go you might like em.
Bella-Angelique
I see I have some films to watch. I admit I have never seen an Ace Ventura or Killer Clown from Space movie.
I seem to have been missing out.

2001 is indeed one of my favourites. It's a beautiful and awe-inspiring film. I love it. The Day the Earth Stood Still, already mentioned, is a great one. But whether it's science fiction or not, I thoroughly enjoyed Metropolis. A real classic!

I go for what people would probably consider "classics". Original War of the Worlds & probably Alien. I do however have soooo many favorites, most all the ones listed here. Probably a lesser known one that I love is "Imposter" with Gary Sinise, but that's cause I enjoy his acting. wink2.gif
coldethyl
Gary Sinise is fire hot.

Reanimator
Logan's Run
2001

Reanimator is super awesome and yet another sequel is in progress 'House of Reanimator' link (imdb)

Also your the only other person to list Logan's Run also which in my opinion is one of the greatest sci-fi films ever.
Snarky Pants
Doh! How could I forget the fantastic "Donnie Darko"??? If you haven't seen it, please do as soon as you can. It's truely awesome.
Falco Rex
Event Horizon, hands down..
The only truly scary sci-fi horror movie ever made..It was like Gene Rodenberry collaborated with H.P. Lovecraft.

I've also got to give a nod to Logan's Run, though.
