Seremban ‘pontianak’ unmasked
BY R.S.N.MURALI
SEREMBAN: The sighting of a pontianak has been hogging the conversation among the people in Taman Permai here for the past month.
The pontianak was sighted by factory production supervisor Mah Hee Hoon, 45, when he was returning to his home in Taman Permai from Nilai around 2.30am last month.
Terrified, Mah rushed home and narrated what he saw to his wife.
He developed a high fever and was warded at a private hospital here for a few days.
But early yesterday morning, the pontianak was finally apprehended by a group of youths. And it turned out to be a prank by two schoolboys, aged 16 and 17, who had taken turns to cover themselves with a white bedsheet and put on plastic fangs to scare the local folk.
“These boys spent hours and stayed awake late into the night just to play such a foolish joke on others when they should be concentrating on their studies,” said Temiang assemblyman Datuk Lee Yuen Fong, who was informed about the sighting.
He added that both the boys were reprimanded and released when their parents apologised and promised that they would make sure their sons would not repeat the prank.
“The particulars of both boys have been noted down and a police report will be lodged if they commit such a prank again,” said Lee.
