DAVENPORT, Iowa -
A man is accused of rigging his apartment to explode and throwing an explosive device at a neighbor's front door.
Jon Garrow, 43, was arrested this week after neighbors reported a strong natural gas odor coming from his apartment. Police discovered Garrow had allegedly removed the hose from his gas stove and rigged some exposed electrical wires so they could ignite a spark if someone opened the front door.
The suspect then went to a nearby building where he threw a milk jug filled with gasoline at the front door, according to an affidavit. Garrow had been in an argument with a woman who lived there and intended for a battery attached to the jug to ignite the fuel, police said.
No one was injured in either incident and no fires ignited, said Maj. Don Schaeffer.
Garrow is charged with arson, possession of explosive materials, threats, going armed with intent, intimidation with a dangerous weapon and assault while participating in a felony. He was placed in jail on $100,000 bond.
