This film, based on Lois Lowry's book, tells the story of a perfect world. Everyone here is happy. When Jonas is 12 years old, he's chosen to be the community's Receiver of Memories. He enters into training with an old man called The Giver. From the Giver, Jonas learns about pain, sadness, war, and all the unhappy truths of the "real" world. He quickly realizes that his community is fake. Confronted with this reality, Jonas faces difficult choices about his own life and his future.

It's still in production. The release date is also unknown right now.

I loved the book though. Read it as a kid and it opens your eyes a little bit. I still have a copy of it sitting around somewhere waiting to be picked up again. tongue.gif Hopefully the movie will follow the book really close, because it is a great book and each scene in the book explains more about the community.

oo loved the book, hope the movie does it justice
Glacies
I certainly hope so as well, loved the book, but i'm not holding my breath.
BandGeek
I luv that book, too. But they're going2 make a movie out of it???
That should B interesting...
Fluffybunny
It is one of my favorite books of all time. I think that it should be required reading in school (along with 1984). I would highly recommend that if you havent read it, to visit the library and pick up a copy.

It is a book that can change a persons perspective. I hope the movie does very well.
MadEyePixie
Too cool. This is one of my favorite books. I love it. I just hope they dont slaughter it when they make the film version.

I assume they will at this point, I won't be getting my hopes up.

I had to read that book in 8th Grade. I didn't really like it at first, but after I was done, I thought it was great. Pretty disturbing though. I hope the movie will be good.
Megalomania

TooFarGone

Pharoah
I hated reading this book in 8th grade grin2.gif Very boring sad.gif

The movie might be worth checkin' out.

But it'd be funny if the first half wasn't in colour lol.

You really should. yes.gif It's only 192 pages to, so it's not a long read. original.gif

blink.gif Wouldn't it have to be though? It would better show the point they are making, then just say they can't see colors.

Like at the point they see the flowers, they would have to do a Jonas view and a Fiona view to really boost that point.

I think the hardest part of the people outside the Giver and Jonas, will be acting the emotions to keep it key with the book.

I was just thinking about this book the other day!

Grade 8 hey? I got in Grade 7. Oh well.

I liked it. It was disturbing, but creative and interesting. I might read it again but I'm not sure about the movie.
Shakezulah
Instead of being in black and white, it should be like how Equilibrium did it, with just the same bland blu-ish grey tone over everything. You can still slightly distinguish the colors of things, but they all look very dull and boring.

In the Equilibrium they weren't color blind though. Right? ph34r.gif There was sure a lot of color, when the Cleric ripped the window shield down to gaze at the sun & city.
Shakezulah
I don't think they were color blind in The Giver either....were they? I don't ever remember reading that.
