Another case that I find interesting. Also known in the headlines as the "Werewolf Murder" and "Vampire Killing".

The best part about this case is how the LAPD attempted to pin this murder on an innocent man. If my memory serves me right he sued for something like $100,000 (this was in the 40's mind you laugh.gif ) and the grand jury launched an investigation that found the LAPD rife with corruption.

I saw a documentary on this years ago and they were saying that she was incapable of pleasuring a man. And that she was cut in half.
That's a very informative link btw. thumbsup.gif

I seen a documentary regarding this case . . it's a fascinating case with some twists. They found her cut in half and the person who spotted her body thought it was a mannequin at first. There was even a tattoo cut out, I believe it was located on her thigh.

Mysterious case . . .

I was on a Batman movie site and an artist drew a picture of what The Joker should look like in the future movie. He based his idea on The Black Dahlia and how she had her smile cut on her face. It looked hxc.

This has been an intriguing mystery for years. Lot's of people came out after Elizabeth Short's death and tried to say she was a prostitute, but you are right with regards that she could not please a man. She could not have been a prostitute, she couldn't even have sex. Her reproductive organs along with other parts (we can all guess, this is a family site, I'm not spelling it out) were not fully developed.

The police actually had a suspect they firmly believe is the killer, Arnold Smith. He had knowledge of the crime that only the killer would have known. Check out this link below, but be forewarned, there are graphic crime scene pictures.

They are also making a movie on The Black Dahlia, coming out sometime this year. Here is that link.

I just finished reading the Black Dahlia Files by Donald H. Wolfe. Pretty good book though I don't necessarily believe all of it. The author believes that Elizabeth Short was murdered by none other then Bugsy Siegel who was running many of the vice rackets in LA at the time. Supposedly Elizabeth Short became pregnant by a very prominent person in the community and she was killed so this would not be revealed. This person is one of those who had connections to the LA Police and underworld.

I'm certainly not an expert on the mob, but from what I understand about the mob it doesn't really sound like a mob killing - dumping the body right next to the sidewalk in a vacant lot for everyone to see which apparently was what the killer wanted. My understanding is that in most instances of a mob murder the body is normally disposed of so as to never be found or not for a very long time if so. Now, Siegel's rival was a Mafia boss known as Jack Dragna who lived just a few blocks away from where the body was deposited and it's suggested that it was placed there to mock or try to intimidate or warn him, but in this case wouldn't it have been more likely for the body to have been placed in front of his house rather then a few blocks away? But then as I say, I'm not a mob expert.

I honestly can't remember where I read it at but I also heard that she could not even have sex let alone be pregnant. I will look around and try to find it but it was a couple of years ago so I might not find it. As for the mafia, most of the time the bodies weren't found at all but if they wanted to send a mesage to someone they had no qualms about making a death public. Back then they didn't have all that much opposition legal wise. They pretty much did as they wanted.

Unfortunately like so many older unsovled crimes, you will see suspects coming out of the woodwork. Court TV did a show on it here awhile back and it ws some guy accusing his dead father. Anything for a buck I guess. at this point in time it is so long ago that it will never be solved, just specualtion on everyone's part.

According to this book and other things that I've read this is false, but is something that has become part of the Black Dahlia myth. She had a normally developed genitalia, but did have female problems of some kind.

The only two things for certain that Elizabeth Short and Bugsy Siegel had in common is that both were murdered the same year and both killers were never caught.

You are probably right about that. a lot of the times that is just what happens with a sensational case like this one. It gets builtup larger than life.

You seriously took the words right out of my mouth. grin2.gif

It seemed at times like I was watching a boxing movie. No wonder I picked it up for 5 bucks out of the discount bin at Walmart a couple of months after it was released. Le' Sigh.
