No it cannot be passed from person to person through a bite, as it is non existant. Unles you refering to some mental illness that causes someone to believe that they are a lycanthrope. That particular illness is sometimes reffered to as clinical lycanthropy, which still can't be passed from person to person through a bite.

For more information on clinical lycanthropy check out the following link. Clinical Lycanthropy

Has anyone else noticed that nobody really called Werewolves "Lycans" until the movie Underworld came out (not counting the Necroscope books.) Before that, the flavor of the day was "Garou." I'm not saying that new names for old things is bad. I'm saying that you cannot see something that you think is so cool that you WILL it to be. Were that true, Willy Wonka's factory would be in full effect.

You mean "Loup Garou" or "lupu" meaning wolf in latin. It was believed that diseases likes rabies could pass on to the victim through bites and scratches. That is why the name persists in fantasy writting. thumbsup.gif

Well thats not the only way that they "Shift" you know. There are different types of Werewolfs/Lycans which shift different ways...
Astral Shifting

These shifters often turn into their animal forms on what is known as the astral plain. This s where they typically hunt, and roam about in their animal form. Many astral shifters have psychic talents, and their forms are often seen as ghostly images, if they can manifest at all on the physical plain. Typically though, as in astral travel, they are generally unseen and pass without notice. Yet like astral travelers, they can be sensed when they are in a room. They also remember clear details in the room, and even could read from a book and tell you what it said, if they wanted too. They typically do not change form on the physical plain. They also remain human in appearance when they shift. Which is when they are asleep, or in a trance-like state.
Aural Shifting

These shifters typically change the form of their aura into that of their animal type. Very rarely, if ever, will they ever show any out ward sign physically, that they are a were. Although there has been some instances of wye color changes during the shift. Only their aura changes, and when it does, most people sense it. It manifests itself in the form of dread or fear of the shifter, much like you would fear an animal that is a predator. Who is about to strike you, or is stalking you. Most aura shifters have psychic talents as well, and will defend themselves with them actively. Author's Note: Most people follow their instincts the common sense rule, if it's uncomfortable, leave. Only a die-hard wolf-killer, or idiot would stay when this shift occurs. Those who do not follow the common sense rule, often bully these shifters and reap what they sow.

These two are just an example there are a few more.

No, Bio thats not what I meant. Loup-Garou is the actual term for werewolf in French. "Garou" is the term that is used to identify a werewolf in a certain RPG. I was just saying that a few years ago this topic would have been named "Garou." No offense to lucien, he asks about what he knows, and he's just trying to learn and cause discussion. Many would have no idea that the word was taken from another language, much less the root word in the language that that language came from. It speaks very well for you that you know the root and not the modern rip-off. original.gif
dreamhunter
it could be carried on from a bite, just like dna, and besides people havent you read the rules?!

Notice how i said "could" not "is"

No werewolves. Ever.
Actually a bit of trivia about the term "Garou". IN Zelda: Majora's mask(a nintendo 64 game for those unknowing) a garo was an Undead Ninja. How that has any bearing on this is kinda beyond me, though.
