I've heard of a few but one area that was even shown on the Travel channel I think about 6 months ago, caught my eye because it was talking about an underground area near downtown Portland, Oregon here near the Willamette river area..

I've lived here all my life and never knew this area existed until I saw it on TV! LOL

I am a Californian, but I happened to travel into Oregon three times last summer, and I know people there in a number of towns and cities.

By chance, I heard quite a number of ghost stories from my friends during my travels. I can't give you exact directions to locations because I am not that familiar with the areas, but I heard Spooky Tales from Klamath Falls, to LaPine and Bend, all of the way to Salem and Portland and then basically down "The 5" to Albany, Corvallis, Lebanon, Sweet Home, as well as down into Medford and somewhere in Grant's Pass.

In Medford, there's supposed to be the ghost of a nude woman that's seen on from time to time on The Freeway, (I-5) laugh.gif I dunno what's up with that, but that's what they told me... hmm.gif

I heard a tale from Corvallis about a lady who was apartment hunting. She went to look at a particular Duplex, but as she pulled into the drive and parked,,,her car began to shake so violently that she tore out of there in fear for her life! She felt that there was a spirit there that did not want her there.

Another lady is said to have lived in a haunted house Sweet Home for many years, according to what people told me. This woman didn't fear the ghost but she felt like it was the spirit of an old pioneer woman who might have lived on the land on which her house was built.

BTW, accordng to "The History Channel," "The Travel Channel," "Discovery" or one of those,,,there are a number of haunted Lighthouses on The Oregon Coast, that's just something else that I thought that I'd pass along...

In any case, these are the types of stories that I heard from people when I was in Oregon last Summer. I hope that this helps you in some way... original.gif

The old Imbrie farmstead (now a McMenamin's pub) in Hillsboro has had a reputation of being haunted for a while now. Also, ghost stories are told about the old Meier and Frank Building in downtown Portland itself. Knew people that worked at both places that had stories to tell about them both. The purported haunting at the Imbrie Farmstead occurs on the second floor. I believe the Meier and Frank Building has problems on its office level, iirc, and my friend said that it was thought to be the ghost of a janitor.

The haunted lighthouse on the coast would be the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse. Iirc, it has ghost stories attributed to it. I've heard stories about the underground area in downtown Portland, too. One of the older buildings at Portland State University also has a purported ghost in it. I think it was Lincoln Hall but it could've been Shattuck. I can't remember. sad.gif Mt. Calvary Cemetery off of Barnes Rd. is also purported to being haunted but eh, it's a cemetery so no great surprise there... wink2.gif

My family thinks that we lived in a haunted house in one of the Portland suburbs. The house was definitely on the peculiar side. We would all hear footsteps in the attic at night and the house would fill with very pungent odors of cologne or something rotting. Objects would disappear and reappear in the strangest places as well. The house, though, was peculiar to begin with. All the interior bedroom doors had bolt locks (this was an expansive ranch home) and evidence that somebody had lived in the attic at one time. Very weird for the neighborhood (upper middle class). The previous owner had disappeared.

Fairview is supposedly way haunted, and even if it isn't its a terrible place where they kept people with mental deficiencies in iron barred cages in the basement. Thats in Salem.

The old Oregon State Hospital is also suppposed to be haunted, from what I've heard although I've enver been there, that is also in Salem.

McMenamin's pub is haunted.

There is another haunted bar out near Aumsville

Some of the graveyards out south on Commercial St. probably have something going on...if you can stand the traffic noise.

If you can't tell I live near Salem, I'll try to dig up some stuff for you.

Just scrolled down the list. Never heard any stories about the Lotus being haunted and I was a regular there. Then again, from the sounds of it, people working there probably wouldn't talk about it, lol. I think the haunted Burger King is the one on Burnside. I remember being told something about it but cannot for the life of me remember what. And hey, I was right about Yaquina Bay Lighthouse.

Oh forgot one more place. It's probably been torn down since I lived in Portland but there was a gas station not far from Valley Theatre (I forget the road) that had a prior owner that hung himself there, right in the mechanic's bays. The employees never knew about it but that place had problems with shop equipment being moved around and etc in the middle of the night.

I rode by that old State Hospital bldg. when I was in Salem last Summer. I told the people that I was riding with that it gave me "The Willies" just going by it. They never told me that it was haunted,,,but I really felt "the creeps" when we went by... dontgetit.gif

Salem is a cool town though,,,I enjoyed my visits there very much! thumbsup.gif

I think that I'll come back this Summer, stay a day or two in Salem, then go on up to Vancouver Canada...

It's great up there in the Summertime,,,but I'm too "tropical" to handle the Winter weather that you guys have,,,Brrrrr!!!!!

The winter isn't really that bad, just wet and dark. But when I say I've neevr been to the Oregon State Hospital, I mean that I've never been inside, I drive by it all the time. I've got some friends who got inside of Fairview once, said it was terrifying, even if you don't believe in ghosts, just because of all the weird stuf left over, there are autopsy tables in the basement and there are the big iron cages that they kept some of the mentally challenged patients in. It was a pretty sick place in its day. Good thing its closed.

I don't really dig Salem that much, but it is close to some awesome hiking and I don't really have much say in where I live at this point in my life so it's all good.
