The metric system is far more logical and natural, once one learns it. It works with our counting system (base 10) and doesn't require learning or remembering a lot of "12 in. in a foot, 5280 ft in a mile" baloney.
I would rather use millimeters and meters than eith's of an inch and yards anytime.
If the US was metric, we would have saved at least one Mars probe that I can think of.
Anyone who thinks that the metric system is difficult was trying to "convert" everything to US measuring rather than learning to "think" in metric. Sort of like trying to speak French while converting everything to English and back. Just start thinking in metric and it works fine. I know that can be difficult in the US because we are currently trying to use both standards. That is what is confusing.
I agree completely. The metric system is FAR easier to do conversions than the system we use now. I mean honestly, how many of you knew (before his post) how many feet were in a mile?
It's so easy to find out how many meters, or centimeters are in a kilometer. It's all in bases of 10. 10 is one of the easiest numbers in the universe to multiply by.
Besides, then we'd be on par with the rest of the world, and it'd be so much easier to communicate quantitative things with everyone else.
Except that temperature stuff.
BTW, how did this topic get onto who loves who, and rednecks?
