The metric system is far more logical and natural, once one learns it. It works with our counting system (base 10) and doesn't require learning or remembering a lot of "12 in. in a foot, 5280 ft in a mile" baloney.

I would rather use millimeters and meters than eith's of an inch and yards anytime.

If the US was metric, we would have saved at least one Mars probe that I can think of.

Anyone who thinks that the metric system is difficult was trying to "convert" everything to US measuring rather than learning to "think" in metric. Sort of like trying to speak French while converting everything to English and back. Just start thinking in metric and it works fine. I know that can be difficult in the US because we are currently trying to use both standards. That is what is confusing.

I agree completely. The metric system is FAR easier to do conversions than the system we use now. I mean honestly, how many of you knew (before his post) how many feet were in a mile?

It's so easy to find out how many meters, or centimeters are in a kilometer. It's all in bases of 10. 10 is one of the easiest numbers in the universe to multiply by.

Besides, then we'd be on par with the rest of the world, and it'd be so much easier to communicate quantitative things with everyone else.

Except that temperature stuff. tongue.gif Celcius is annoying.

BTW, how did this topic get onto who loves who, and rednecks?

Well I voted yes on conversion. If not a full conversion I think that it should be taught, just for the sake of travelling. If kids think the metric system is confusing now, good luck trying to use it when you need it in another country.

Metric rocks. It's base 10. Easy to learn.

I just hate having to listen to TV shows and trying to figure out how big that figurine REALLY is.

If we in England can drop a system invented by the English in favour of one invented by the French how difficult can it be for the Americans to do the same.

Mind you we still measure speed in miles per hour here.

My thoughts exactly. I learnt metric in around a day. In primary school. In year 2. We had a practise test the next day, and along with me, most in my class got 100%.

If you guys have some problems with it... that might not be a good thing. (Trying to be blunt.. but not offensive.)

I voted "yes" for pure selfish reasons. If the UK had to do it, then so should the US. tongue.gif
