Magnetic forces at the center of the galaxy have twisted a nebula into the shape of DNA, a new study reveals.

The double helix shape is commonly seen inside living organisms, but this is the first time it has been observed in the cosmos.

"Nobody has ever seen anything like that before in the cosmic realm," said the study's lead author, Mark Morris of the University of California at Los Angeles. "Most nebulae are either spiral galaxies full of stars or formless amorphous conglomerations of dust and gas — space weather. What we see indicates a high degree of order."

Must rotate on more than one axis then, for it to be elongated like that, yet still have that spiral shape. Wickedly cool though!

It could of been warped by a nearby star.

Actually this nebula is just 300 light years from the huge black hole that lurks at the centre of the galaxy. It is almost certainly the black hole's magnetic field that is producing this effect.

That is awefully purdy, regardless of its cause.

You've might have seen these nebulae but I wanted to share them. Some of them look like people, its pretty cool.

ya i always thought that i could see a dragons head in that one pic of a nebula called the pillars of creation

It kind of does and the little wing tip too.
