There are bad guys in film..... and then there are BAD GUYS in film. There are some actor's that just don't seem to play good guys. Even when they're supposed to be good, they look bad.

But who, in Hollywood, does it best? Who's the best at being only a bad guy? I'm sure I've left a couple off this list, but I can't think of any more at the moment. edit..... NOTE: This is NOT a poll as to who portrayed the best bad guy of all time. There are some awesome actor's who've played some really awesome bad guys. This poll is discussing the actor's who are generally seen as "the bad guy".

For tidiness sake, can we limit this poll to actor's who are still alive.

I chose good ol' Chris. He's good at playing dignified villians. Gary Oldman would be my second, because he's good at being a psychopath.

Willem Dafoe and Jack Nicholson should be on that list as well.

Most good actors, can make an excellently good villain.

A great one was Geoffrey Rush, PotC.
He WAS the evil pirate, you didn't doubt his character a bit.

Good actor's can play any role they are given, true. However, in Hollywood there are some actor's that generally have been typecast as the "bad guy". Geoffrey Rush is a good actor, but he's also played many convincing good guys.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

You completely forgot Nicholas Cage and for that matter John Travolta both of those guys played amazng bad guys in Face-Off.

He was also the baddie in Speed 2 if I recall correctly. He played the villian Nikolai Diavolo in the James Bond game Everything or Nothing. He was supposedly the student of Max Zorin, and the game was the first I've ever heard of the JB series refering to events in other movies (aside from Tracy and Blofeld).

Nicholas Cage in Face/Off - evil. Nicholas Cage in The Rock, annoyingly good?

Even in films where CW is good - IE, The Deer Hunter, Catch me if you can - He still has an evil air about him. It's the way he plays the character, not just the character.
