Hey chaps, any idea about who the "Comforter" is that Jesus talks of in the bible? Many say it's the Holy Spirit. If it is so, what is the proof? And if no, what is the proof?

Just as an aside Sumz; links to that which you speak of when you start this thread, is quite helpful in first posting the information that you ask us to add too in discussion. original.gif

As I do not know in what context you mean to learn the identity of the Comforter. (Relative to Christian myth or Islam? ) I thought to provide a thought to engage both sides.

Jesus and the Comforter

I look forward to input in this discussion. Thanks for the post SumZ. grin2.gif

Enlightenment that mankind truly is all of one spirit and that accepting this truth creates a pychic link that is strengthened by emotion and devotion to one another.

An example is when there is someone talking to a group of people and half understand what the meaning is behind what they are saying and the other half understands the words used but not the meaning behind it.

This how people can see and still not see and hear but still not hear.

Compassion, mercy, justice, love of truth, and lovefor all mankind is the shared spirit that shapes the perception of those who have this covenant of the heart. The pychic link comforts them that they are never truly alone, as they are one with all those who are good at heart.

You always give good links. original.gif

My personal view is the comforter (spirit within) which I consider to be a part of God. The pure spirit that contains God within each of us.
Basically the holy spirit but I don't view it as a seperate entity but one in the same.

I think about how many times certain things have made me feel spiritual and how the spirit within has brought peace, solice, and comfort to my mind. Just my thoughts.

Thanks Imaginary Friend. I had placed the question as I had a genuine doubt. I have heard the Muslim version (I won't say Islamic), but agree it holds no water as it is just an attempt to twist the information their way, when it is plain to see Jesus did not mean to say anything about Prophet Mohammed. I also believe that Jesus was indeed referring to the Holy Spirit. Thanks for the same.. thumbsup.gif

I suppose that could technically come from within as well depending on the circumstances. rofl.gif

The comforter was on his bed, he used it to cover himself when he slept.

Holy Spirit is a concept borrowed from several much older religions by the Christians to get around the claim of Jews that Christianity was a polythestic religion. One plus one plus one makes the Trinity (also borrowed from many older religions), three make one and one makes three, so the concept of the Trinity was an attempt to negate the Jewish charge! - CD thumbsup.gif

Acts 1v8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

was fulfilled in:

Acts2: 1When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.

So yes its the Holy Spirit thumbsup.gif
