You want to see fairies. Go watch Tinkerbell in Peter Pan. Thats the only fairies anyone is going to see.

I don't really think things like faeries (or things that can travel between planes at will) can be photographed. I think it would be more of a "you have to see it to believe it" sense, as in seeing in person.

Faked. Looks like the lighting is a bit off.

They don't scare me. How can they? THEY don't exist. I do have some pixie dust I can sell you. w00t.gif

Back in the 70s and 80s, in Britain, there use to be an early evening magazine style programme on TV called Nationwide... It was sometimes disparagingly called Nationtrite as it did have a tendency to do something like singing dogs straight after an article on spousal abuse...

However, they loved a good spooky tale , be it ghosts, UFOs, whatever. They ran the Cottingley story but also showed that reports of the Fey folk* were rife throughout the country and they were not as rare as maybe people would think they were.

It is worth remembering the *Fey* have a history in Nothern European culture dating back, literally 1000s of years, before the arrival of new fangled spirits like angels etc with the spread of xtianity... I'm not that old, and i clearly remember many of my older relatives and parents family friends leaving out offering of food for for the *Folk that live under the hill* at night on a regular basis. And no, it wasn't some story they told kids as some sort of nightime sop to encourage them to go to bed, they really did *believe* it was the *right thing to do*.

Anyway to return to the Nationwide article. As expected after reviewing the various stories and sightings there was , of course , much mirth, chortling and ribbing of the idea of fairies actually existing... The guy presenting the article turned with a certain smugness and asked the final presenter what she thought of of it all.

Now this final presenter was one Valerie Singleton, the doyen of middle class England in the 60s and 70s. She has the perfect BBC English voice, the sort of person who could announce armageddon in the same even perfectly enunciated tone she could announce the results of the wackiest vegetable contest at a local fete. In other words, the very model of British middle class restraint and all round common sense. Valerie had been the presenter of a kids programme called *Blue Peter* which was the BBC's flagship childrens *factually informative* magazine programme. It was the sort of programme even the infamous *retired Majors of Surrey* admired for it's all round common sense and the attitudes it attempted to instill into it's impressionable audience.

So there we all were, the smug grin of the presenter as he turns to Valerie expecting her to give her standard BBC chuckle indicating , yes but we all know it's rubbish, but lets not ruin the kiddies dreams and.........

Well ,Valerie sat there and with a totally straight face said... "Actually I'm not so sure,..... I'm not going to go into it on this programme but,... when i was a child i saw something that has stayed with me... and to this day I actually have an open mind about the subject"...

The main presenter's face was an absolute peach , as this obviously hadn't been scripted, and clearly flustered by , what was in effect, almost like the Queen saying i believe in fairies, they quickly passed over to the next item...

As W B yeats wrote in the preface to Lady Gregory's Chuchulainn of Muirthemme... "We irish should keep these personages much in our hearts, for they lived in the places that we ride and go marketing, and sometimes they have met one another in the hills that cast their shadows on our doors at evening".... might be an appropriate end to this post methinks .. :-)

I guess that makes me imaginary! o_O

Anyway. I don't know, these pictures look too sugary-sweet to me to be real faeries.
Sorry, Alisa. :/

Also, the Cottingley faeries thing turned out to be a hoax, after all-- The two girls admitted it when they were in their nineties. They cut the pictures out of magazines, and used hatpins to secure them.

Also, I don't see why any of you bother arguing with mr. ericraven, there. It's a waste of time. If he wants to join a community like this and just be a flaming troll, let him.
No sense wasting our time and energy arguing.

w00t.gif Thanks for pointing her out. original.gif I know there are more than just the few fairies I can see and outline in my photos.

How someone would know what a fairy looks like and why one would think it looks like a traditionally depicted fairy... the first fairies I saw were just there and it was not a matter of thinking what they might look like and trying to find them. I saw them first, and then asked the question: what are these beings? And as Firemoon said, fairies have been sighted for thousands of years so there are lots of descriptions.

If I were going to depict a fairy from my imagination it would be more like the Cottingley Fairies or Tinkerbell, a woman-type figure with large luxurious wings.

Alisa,

I live about 3 maybe 4 miles from the house where the Cottingley Fairies were photographed, in fact an actor that stars in Emmerdale farm bought the very same house that the girls lived in that took the photo's, several years ago.

My Daughter (10 year old and my Mum.. recently passed away) always believed in Fairies, there are several hot spots around here where they are supposed to live and I often take my daughter to them.. perhaps I should take her and the camera and let her take some photo's.. maybe you can see something in them?

It IS a case of pareidolia. But pareidolia is seeing meaning in what some consider (meaningless) stimuli. Anything we see and recognize as meaningful is a case of pareidolia.

I remember when I was young, my dad would constantly spot deer standing still amidst trees as we were driving up the canyon. I could rarely see what he was excitedly pointing out. But I don't doubt that he saw deer, or that they were really there.

There are plenty of cases, too, in which a group of people experience a "haunting" where some can see/hear/feel the ghosts and others of the same group at the same time cannot. I know ghosts exist so it is easy for me to understand that everyone perceives differently and that this does not mean there are no ghosts just because some can "see" and some cannot.

As for Jesus in toast, if enough people see it, believe in it, and derive satifaction, comfort, happiness, or entertainment from it, then I find it a valid, worthwhile phenomenon. As for me, I don't believe in coincidences. I see meaning in just about everything.

w00t.gif Wow, you live so close! Back when I first found my fairies I searched the net for Cottingley info and re-looked at the whole thing and found there are some strong sides of the story that negate the debunking. Also, I once found a site with a current daytime fairy photo from the area (but haven't a clue anymore where I found the site). sad.gif

Absolutely take a camera (especially visit at dawn or dusk--best from my experience, but day is also quite valid). If anything would attract the fairies, it would be your daughter. original.gif Have her ask them to pose and they probably will. I would be thrilled to have a look at your photos if you take some!

Ohhhh, Mr. Ericraven. original.gif You and Psych101 have this same viewpoint. You are nice guys that have a strong case of cynicism. I was actually pretty cynical (not as strongly as you, but I had to have a scientific explanation for everything and a majority rule). But the day my mom told me that her mother's spirit had visited her (and poor Mom has zero imagination), it triggered a part of me that said, "hey, what if I am overlooking something very important, facinating, and vital, and shutting it out". I don't want to just live and die if I can find out the reason I am even "here". So I decided that very day that I wanted to know if there was a spirit world or not. Period. And there was no way to find the answer to that without being open to belief. I started with near-death experiences, reading every book and account I could get my hands on, and for the first time I decided to pray and ask if there is a God.

Well, it snowballed from there, and one day I got the urge to pick up my digital camera, ask a spirit to show up, and take a pic. Voila. My first tiny rainbow orb. And then the other stuff started showing up and I began to feel slight energies around me. Of course all the time the skeptical part of me tries to pipe up, so I do understand where you are coming from, but I have to shut it down or I cannot explore adequately.

I also think it is unfair to have to err on the side of cautious skepticism. Why can't one err on the side of belief in spiritual phenomenon? Why not think it is a fairy until proven otherwise?

Hey Alisa,
You're very welcome. I enjoy your web site and your thoughts on faeries and the like. I did get worried about you. I was afraid the nay-sayers had scared you into shutting down your website. ;( I'm glad you got your pc problems worked out, I know how annoying that can be.

You're web site is 1 of only 3 websites that I've found that presents photo pictures of faeries, (other sites have scattered pictures of them like this community site.) Most of the info sites that have faerie info uses pencil drawings and art work.

Keep up the great work on your website.
I really enjoy looking at the adorable pictures of the faeries.

On your website, you mention paranormal faces sharing spaces in photos. I agree with you that is so true. (I wonder if alot of pictures are dismissed because the owner of the picture doesn't realize that in the paranormal world a 'veil of souls' can seen in a some of the pictures.) I'm glad you noticed it and made a mention of it. It's so curious.

By the way, loved the happy face orb! original.gif

I believe that magical beings exist. I mean the ideas came from some where! I believe there are Elves and Fairys and more, but I also believe they are to smart to let them selves be photographed. I mean, really, think about it if they got caught they would be exploited, put on display, possibly dissected to see how they tick. I truly don't believe they would let them selves be photographed.

I posted at the end of the Fairy Pictures thread, but thought I'd start a new topic for any comments on my photos.

I have become an avid spirit photographer, and while poring over some photos I took of trees at night, I found what I realized are fairies. I had no intention of photographing fairies, nor had I considered their existence as real before they showed up in my photos, then I decided, why not? Everything else strange under the sun (well, moon) is showing up in my photos. There are more of my photos here.

Some people that have seen these photos have had a hard time "seeing" the fairies or found them too blury. However, the fairies seem to only turn out in my photos when I am a certain distance away from them, which makes them blurry when I enlarge the photo. Also, I did not see them with my eyes so they are obviously not 100% physical.

user posted image

I was in complete amazement for days after finding the first fairy images. That first night as I fell asleep, I felt as if the fairies were explaining to me about their culture though I cannot consciously recall any of it, but it happened over several nights. It felt as if I were going through huge volumes of books. One thing that I can remember moments before my alarm clock went off in the morning, was hearing this tiny voice that sounded like the Chipmunks (Alvin, etc.) saying, "Aww nuts, you're running away..."

I remembered the Cottingley fairies and decided to do a thorough internet search on them. When I saw their photos again I was disappointed as the fairies looked like cutouts. However, after reading many versions of the story, I found that some versions say that the girls held out for a long time that the fairies were real, and only one in the end finally agreed that 4 of the 5 photos were not real. However, this is contradicted all over the place, too. What interested me the most was reading that the man who first got his hands on the photos and negatives had them "cleaned up" as thoroughly as possible so the images would be crisp. In doing so, he had made them look fake. The fifth photo was not cleaned up and it is amazing to me because the fairies look transparent (and interdimensional) as are my fairies. Here is a copy of the fifth photo that I clarified by tinting the flesh.

Hi Coldethyl. original.gif What I mean by "negate the debunking" is this... the girls reportedly saw fairies and took photos of them. Much like UFO encounter evidence, ghost encounter evidence, bigfoot, etc., some people were absolutely amazed at the proof, others insisted they were faked.

The girls were pressured by the naysayers (as virtually all experiencers can attest to). From personal experience, despite the fact that you know that you are experiencing the paranormal, hostile reactions from others can make it easier to shut up about it, or even take it back, depending upon your personality. The testimony of the girls is supposedly wavering from their own mouth, being distorted from reporters, rumours are being mixed in, etc. Now the truth "seems" muddied. I have read accounts where the girls (one or all) insist to the death that it was true. That negates the debunked accounts, which is in part what I was getting at. original.gif

Bren, fairies can be photographed by anyone. I do believe that desiring and intending to photograph them helps. I use a Nikkon Coolpix digitial camera, go out at dusk and take pictures of trees and bushes, load the files into the computer and then use a photo-paint program to examine the photos closely for anomalies. I actually find it soothing to search photos and very rewarding to find anomalies. I also find that with practice, spotting the anomalies becomes easier.

Tooth-and-Claw, I can fully understand your belief that the fairies I photograph might not be real. I agree that the little round-faced one (with what looks like a top hat) seems like it could be set there. All I can say is that I give you my word, I didn't fake that or any of my photos. I actually think it is exciting that it looks real enough to seem fake. original.gif

I had read that they even produced the cut outs used during the picture-taking. They are obviously fakes to most people and having been stated as such by the girls should lay them to rest, IMO. Why keep trying to prove something that has already been proven to be false? hmm.gif

That's just the point I was trying to make.

Beacuse for some, reality is just not as palateble as fantasy....or on a different level...the world of the unknown is much more exciting than the everyday world of the mundane...even I have daydreamed from time-to-time about the fantastic...I just harbor no misconceptions about my own reality....unlike some.

Bit off subject but in the spirit of mysterious pictures and the eyes that observe them:

Years ago (and maybe today) there was a fad in the poster world of pictures being done in 3D (not sure that's what it's called now?) Anyway, an artist would take a picture of a 'something', blurr it and sell it with the tantelizing message that if you stand at a certain angle and stare at it, an image of the 'something' would appear.

My husband and son could see the lovely dolphins, elephants and whales...
I never could. I even stared at the picture long enough it gave me a headache, but still no lovely beast appeared in the image for me. It would have made a beautiful print for quilting with it's overlay of patterns...

Anyway...
my husband, son and thousands of other people saw the 'somethings' in the posters.
I and thousands of other people saw nothing but lovely patterns.
So, was the elephant, whale or dolphin really there? You couldn't prove it by me. How do we (the unseeing) know that the artist wasn't just 'pulling a funny on us' to make money?

Non-the-less, I think you get my gist.
It truly is what the individuals eyes can see as to what images appear.
It has very little to do with anyones perception of 'reality' .
You see what you see...

I had read that they even produced the cut outs used during the picture-taking. They are obviously fakes to most people and having been stated as such by the girls should lay them to rest, IMO. Why keep trying to prove something that has already been proven to be false? hmm.gif

That's just the point I was trying to make.

Okay, but where are the cutouts? Someone wrote that the pictures were cut out, but I searched and searched to see a copy of the cutouts from the book they were supposed to be cut from and found nothing. It is hearsay until someone produces that. Anyone can write anything regardless of its truth.

I also read that the photo plates were touched up (painted) so the fairy images were opaque and easier for the supposedly untrained eye to see because the camera expert thought that was the best thing to do at the time. Who is right?

And perhaps a majority of people do think the girls faked it. Perhaps not. A belief held by the majority doesn't make anything true, either. By far and large this issue has not been proven to be false. However, I am happy to accept your point of view that the photos are faked. original.gif

I am from a city in northern Ireland and my family came from the hills in Donegal I know from my mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother (RIP) and greatgrandfather (RIP) that they would swear to you that "The Wee Folk" lived in the hills. Take from this what you want, I have no personal experience, but can I deny what they seen ?

Well that's my penny's worth...

Actually I think one of the girls drew them and then cut them out. Thanks for the civility. thumbsup.gif

I copied and pasted this "The fairies in the first photo were traced from an illustration of dancing girls that came from page 104 of a copy of "Princess Mary's Gift Book." from here http://www.anomalyinfo.com/articles/sa00017a.shtml Of course as with the rest of the story who knows if its true? grin2.gif
Perfect Imperfection
I want to believe they're real (well, the child in me does!) and I can make something otu when I really try but maybe that's just my mind trying to see something that's not there because it so desperately wants to something to be there.

Glad to see the thread hasn't descended into childish name calling etc which a lot of these kind of threads can create!!

There's a town in Northern Ireland (Comber) and it has what is known as 'The Fairy Ring' in it. The trees in the area have grown in a circle and the trunks are all twisted and strange and apparently things happen there. I've never been to it (Even though I was brought up there) but my mum has with her friends (back in the day!!) I don't know exactly where it is or whether it's still there to take photos but I'll try and find out anything more if anyone is interested?

I know what you mean. I want to believe to.

Have you ever read Peter and Wendy by J M Barrie? Here's a link.

The fairy antics were my fave part.

I looked at the link, thanks. I still want to see the pictures to see if they match, as it remains hearsay to me otherwise because I've read so many different lines on this now. For a long time the girls were firmly persistent that the photos they took were real. Also of significance (IMO) is the fact that they apparently saw and interacted with fairies on a regular basis to the point that the fairies were commonplace enough to usually ignore them. With the constant questioning of the girls and their photos, they would have to be pretty tough to remain consistent under the pressure.

I can't prove that the Cottingley fairies were real, though I believe that they existed, the girls saw and interacted with them, and photographed some of them. Fairies, Cottingley or otherwise, wouldn't even be an issue for me had I not had my own experience with fairies via my photos (as I see them) and the few interactions I had with fairies shortly afterward while I was in an altered state of consciousness.
