Man burnside, we all know that you are the man... but seriously, this film sounds like someone wrote a bunch of words down on post-it notes, stuck them to a dartboard, and picked a movie topic by hitting them with darts. If you want to be honest about it, many many movies have story lines that are so simple anyone could have come up with, but the fact is most people don't.

It's okay Rambo, not everyone gets it. If you don't have a very good sense of humour, then you wont like it and will feel the need to belittle it. No biggie.
Alright guys.
So i got a crew together, 10 of us in total. Alas, no rubber snakes, we couldn't find any in time. But that's okay. We made ourselves quite a reputation in the theatre before it even started, cracking our jokes and just being goofs.
Then it started. And from the very first second, the first second everyone was crying with laughter, it was just so brilliantly done. I loved the intro!! It was like taking every silly cliche b-intro ever done, and putting it in there. Surfers and bikes and oh, the font was classic hahah. So bland. The whole theatre was full of people who were there because they got the joke, so we were all roaring. Our group kept up a rather funny running commentary, and no one minded despite how loud our howls were or our wise-cracks, because that's the kinda movie it is. A throw popcorn and jump up movie, not a 'shhh' movie.
So yeah, damn that got violent fast!! I love Jacksons intro, how the hell did he know where to find the kid? Never explained lol. And he was smmoooth Jackson, loved it. You can tell he never took a second of it fully seriously, it's awesome.
ALL THE SNAKES!! THE SNNAAAAAKES!!! hahahah it was so freaking awesome!! "Great, Snakes, on CRACK!" Classic. I have to say, tehre were some truely frightening senarios in there. Like when the girl wakes up, and there's nothing but darkness and dead bodies around her, and hundreds of snakes about to kill her at any second. Terrifying!!
The initial attack was pure brilliance. First, i want to point out the awesomeness of the snakes practically deliberately sabotaging the plane, hahah. And then they all came out through the bloody oxygen things, oh crap!! Oh god i was crying with pure joy during the attack. In the BOOB!! In the NUTS aarrgghh!! Up through the dress and in the eye!! Oh no!! Oh it was teriffic. I can't stress that enough. The music just fit so well with everything too. And Jackson, well, there seriously could not have been anyone else.
I have never done this. I give this movie 10/10, because i simply have absolutely no quams with it at all. It was flawless brilliance. The best time i have ever had in the theatre. I gave it a standing ovation, much to the humour of the theatre who i think was laughing at just how much fun i was having with the movie as much as with me hahah.
The Anaconda at the end flying out the window with a big man-sized shape in the middle of it, pure awesomeness. Man, i can't believe that couple died, i liked them. I was even sad enough to shed a few tears at some points, it had some sad parts and happyness parts. A good mix.
I rank it right up there with Shaun of the Dead on my list, and you guys know that's high praise from me.
I wish there was more to the ending. It was a good end though, totally unexpected but it leaves you saying man, i totally should have expected that hahah. That was the brilliant ingeniusness of it. It's Snakes on a Plane, and that's exactly what it is!
Can't wait to see it again and again hahah.
Guys, see this damned movie. I'm freaking serious. If you like to laugh like you have never laughed, with the occasional boo scares that make you jump and laugh, a good selection of characters that fit really well (and i can't believe that guy had a girlfriend afterall hahaha) with Jackson doing his thing, keeping it cool and crackin Jackson liners, tasering Snakes in the face and slammin them around, etc etc, you'll love this.
They should make a gag joke at the Emmys or something just for this. "Best movie featuring Snakes, ur.. on a Plane.."

SOAP (as it is affectionately called) beat out "Talladega Nights" and is in 1st place, with a modest 15 million USD.

Audience participation really made this movie something memorable. We were all of one mind, huge laughs and shocking humour racked through the theatre as one. Like when the guy threw the dog to the Anaconda, the whole place was yelling mad and laughing too, and then cheering when he got eaten haha. SO good! I'm totally seeing it again!!

Great review, Burns. Those are pretty much my thoughts exactly. I saw the midnight showing on Thursday night, and there were surprsingly not a lot of people there. Maybe 40, 50 at the most, and the theater rooms are huge. I was dissapointed, because I knew the audience would play a big part in how much I enjoyed the film. Actually, the lack of people did not stop it. They were pretty loud people, and like you said, they laughed and reacted similarly to all the events in the movie. I was glad everyone there understood the stupidty and genious of tis movie. Everyone, including myself, was laughing or making comments throughout the entire movie. It was awesome.
I loved when Jackson's partner died, and how overly dramatic it was. "....good luck..."
And when the power went out, someone in the backround randomly yelled "IT'S THE SNAKES!". That had me rolling.
Wow....just everything about this movie is perfect. Hopefully I'll go see it again, with a bigger croud. There are a LOT of good movies coming out now, though.

We were actually sneaky. There are three, maybe four huge main theatres in my city, two smaller ones and two big Famous Players ones, you know the type, a city inside a building with alot of screens.
We decided to go to the place that isn't a teen-hangout spot or anything like that, we actually went to the place where generally more stand-up good people go, and instead of having to deal with 500+ idiots in each theatre we had about 70 or so decent good natured folk who were all just like us, wanting to avoid idiots and have a good fun time. I was happy.
But yeah, apparently New Line is pretty dissapointed with opening weekend sales. I think they were expecting record sales because of all the internet hype, but what they failed to realise is the hype was ALL internet, there wasn't much marketing outside it. Therefore it was mainly just surfers and their friends who saw it.

Truth be told, I seriously doubt this movie was made to be a comical film. It was meant to be an action thriller similar to MI3. However you all are treating as if it is so bad and full of cliches that it was enjoyable. Hmm.... reminiscent of Plan 9 From Outer Space if you ask me (although no movie will ever be as bad as that one

). If you want to see a funny movie go see a funny movie, do not go see a movie so awful that it puts you into convulsions and fits of laughter at the same time. Hell, I would not ever be scared if there were snakes on a plane. Nothing a few knives and a brain couldn't handle...

Actually, it WAS made to be comical, and it was, which proves you know nothing about this movie. So just stop acting like you do. And to say that you wouldn't be scared on a plane full of hundreds of violent, poisonous snakes....I can't believe you are seriously saying that. I doubt that has ever happened to you, so how the hell would you know? Also, remember that this is FICTIONAL MOVIE, meaning it's NOT REAL. So comparing it to a real life scenario is completely stupid. This movie is not meant to be taken seriously, but you evidently do not understand that....

Aug 22 2006, 12:41 AM
Yes, it has been a comedy from the get go. The whole idea from it came from the internet jokes, that's how it got so big. It's a comedy action thriller Rambo. Try seeing it before telling us what it is.

Actually, the movie was finished filming with a 13A rating in September 2005. Due to the internet hype, it was then re-shot about 6 months later so it could become an R rating. Such lines were included like Jacksons "Eough is enough, i've had it with these MF snakes, on this MF plane!" and other gory/violent parts. To appease the fans, who were for the majority the internet folks who, well, wish for such things.
And thank god too.

I think maybe that originally some writer guy invisioned it to be a serious film...because it's not a full blown comedy. Most of the "jokes" come from the internet and not the movie. There are indeed funny parts...but it is in no way a comedy.

On a different note, here's a quote I got from Wikipedia, originally from Samuel L:
On June 3, 2006 while presenting the award for best movie at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards, Samuel L. Jackson said:
"I'm here tonight to present the award everyone's been waiting for: best movie. Now, this award holds a special place in my heart because next year I'll be winning it for Snakes on a Plane. Now I know, I know that sounds cocky, but I don't give a damn. I am guaranteeing that Snakes on a Plane will win best movie next year. Does not matter what else is coming out. The New James Bond... no snakes in that! Ocean's 13... where my snakes at? Shrek the Third... green, but not a snake. No movie shall triumph over Snakes on a Plane. Unless I happen to feel like making a movie called Mo' Muthaf***in' Snakes on Mo' Muthaf***in' Planes. "

Snakes in the cinema make viewers see red
Phoenix - Life imitating art is all very well. Unless, that is, it's a movie about deadly snakes on the rampage.
The movie chain AMC Entertainment said pranksters at one of its Phoenix theatres released two live diamondback rattlesnakes during a showing of the film Snakes On A Plane last Friday. No one was injured.
AMC spokesperson Melanie Bell said: "One was found in the parking lot during the show, and the other in the movie theatre. They were both removed, and no one was harmed."
The snakes were later released in the desert.
Bell had no further details.
The movie stars Samuel L. Jackson, and spins a yarn about a crate-load of escaped snakes that run amok on an airline flight, attacking passengers and crew.
"There were kids at the show, and it was actually very reckless," Russ Johnson, the president of the Phoenix Herpetological Society told Reuters.
"The snakes' bite carries a powerful venom that could have seriously injured someone," he added.
