Coyote captured in NYC's Central Park

By correspondent John Shovelan

A wily coyote that led police and park rangers on a two-day chase through New York City's Central Park has been captured.

The coyote is believed to have swum across a river to reach Central Park in the hope of feeding on one of Manhattan's finest ducks.

The coyote was first spotted on the weekend but gave authorities the slip.

The park, with its reservoirs, zoo and wilderness areas, offered plenty of cover.

It was captured after being shot with a tranquilliser dart.

New York City parks commissioner Adrian Benepe says it was a wild animal that might eat a domestic dog.

The coyote had been hunting ducks and other birds in the park and left piles of feathers in its wake.
