The following image shows a woodcutting, from 1678. It depicts the corn circle found in a farmer's field, in Hertfordshire, England.

Note the artist's depiction of the devil in the centre.

Any real info on this event would be appreciated.

I found the integral text of that picture, here it is:

"Being a True Relation of a Farmer, who Bargaining with a Poor Mower, about the Cutting down Three Half Acres of Oats: upon the Mower's asking too much, the Farmer swore That the Devil should Mow it rather than He. And so it fell out, that very Night, the Crop of Oat shew'd as if it had been all of a Flame: but next Morning appear'd so neatly mow'd by the Devil or some Infernal Spirit, that no Mortal Man was able to do the like.

Also, How the said Oats ly now in the Field, and the Owner has not Power to fetch them away.

Licensed, August 22th, 1678"

This crop circle in particular is the first one to be recorded, but not the last in that region, there are recent crop circles in Hertfordshire, dated 17th June 2003 and 5th June 2003.

5th June:

Thanks. original.gif

The text I had, but I didn't know it was the first ever recorded.

I don’t know the exact figure, but isn’t it strange that the majority of crop circles have appeared in England! I wonder why England’s so special?
Lilly Maid
Maybe 'coz they have more suitable fields, or mabey, E.T. came down from the sky and chose Britan to be their Earth H.Q. and this is how they communicate with other E.T.s . alien.gif
That last one was a bit of a joke, but Kryso, Just question! thumbsup.gif

Although, any one got any ideas about why those orbs seem to pop up around them? Any info would be greatly appreciated. disgust.gif

I wouldn't have a clue about orbs, but maybe real cropcircles are pretty much evenly spaced around the globe, and there are just more pranksters in England?? Anyone else got ideas?? blink.gif

In my personal opinion 90% of the total crop circles are made by people who dont have anything more to do. All you need is a rope and a large board.
But there are crop circles were the plants are only slighly bent, not broken, and in a special pattern, normaly pointing to the oposite side of the center of the circle.
Im looking for a site i saw times ago, bout a crop circle in finland, or denmark, (dont quite remeber), this site has good info, i shall put the link when i find it

I think I'd go along with that assumption.

I think it's safe to say that anything with a pattern is probably fake. As for the plain circles?

Wind vortices, magnetic fields, UFO downdrafts? Who knows.

As for England being home of the crop circles? I don't know, but the British isles are quite a creepy place.

2000 years of bloodshed, a damp climate (good for ghosts), ley lines and the ancient black art practises of celts all mixed into one spot.

To be fair, corn/crop circles are seen the world over. I've even heard of pine trees in North America/Canada (can't remember which-I'll get back to you on that), being bent(but not broken) in a circle, similar in fashion to a corn circle.
