Hi, I'm new to this website...found it through a search engine while looking up information about what might be happening at our house. By posting to this site, I was hoping someone might have some helpful information about what might be going on and what we can do about it. A little background first...
My fiancee and I moved into a townhouse in February of this year. I have a 15 year old daughter and 10 year old son from a previous marriage that live with us. We are both 30-something professionals and I'm a little skeptical about mentioning this problem to anyone I know very well in fear of sounding like a flake or that I'm making this up.
About a month after we moved in, I noticed something odd out of the corner of my eye on several occasions. It was grayish-black, looked like it might be "hairy," moves extremely fast, and is usually about 3 feet off the ground. I'd seen it several times, but thought I might have a "floatie" in my eye. That's until my fiancee mentioned that he had seen it also and asked me about it one night right after he had seen it. It kind of freaked us out a little bit, but we didn't feel threatened or anything and blew it off.
Then one night, my daughter was away and my fiancee and I were both downstairs. My son comes down (it's about 1 am) and says he keeps hearing a tapping noise in his room. We told him that it was probably nothing, but he comes downstairs again and complained. The third time, my fiancee and I walked around the outside of the house and didn't see anything, but my son brought down his sling-shot and slept on the couch. I should also mention that we have had things disappear around the house from time to time, spent quite awhile looking for these things to no avail, and then have them turn up hours or days later in obvious places that we pass several times a day. I had this happen a few days ago before I left town. I was looking for a pair of earrings that belonged to my mom. Couldn't find them in the place I always keep them, and didn't have any luck finding them anywhere. About an hour before I was to leave on my trip, I walking into the kitchen and they were sitting right in the middle of the bar. I said "thank you" to whatever it was and went on my trip.
At first, we would only see this "thing" once or twice a month, but we've started to see it more often and my daughter has seen it several times now and then about two weeks ago, my fiancee heard a noise, got out of bed and went into the living room. He had his contacts out, so couldn't see that well, but he said that something came at him from the shadows next to the front window. He literally had to move out of the way, and when it passed, he said that the air temperature dropped about 20 degrees and chilled him. We are starting to get a little scared by the whole thing...At first, we also thought that it might be one of our pets. I have a small cat, and a very small dog (about 4 pounds), but we don't understand how either one of them could be that far off the ground and moving that fast. Besides, our pets get pretty spooked if they are with us when we see this thing. In fact, the night that the thing came at him, the cat was asleep on our bed and the dog stays in my daughter's room at night.
I should add that our townhouse is only about 7 years old, but is built on a hill in our town that was totally undeveloped until a few years ago. The land was part of a large farm on the edge of town, but most of it has been sold to developers and we are surrounded by homes and businesses now.
I guess what I'm asking is: Does anyone have any idea what this might be? I've read a little on the subject lately, but have nothing I can put my finger on. Something I read said something about the differences between poltergeists, demons and actual ghosts. And that some of the activity that we are witnessing is more common in homes with teenagers (which I have). Also, is their anything that can be done? Would moving help? Somethings I have read suggest that certain "entities" can actually move with you, so would I gain anything be moving?
I guess the ironic thing in all of this is that I've always considered myself to be an iron-clad skeptic, but now I'm not so sure, and quite frankly, have no clue what's happening in my house.
Can anyone help us?????????
