When I was 18 I was into Ouija Boards. In England they were just coming into fad with all the kids. I remember one occasion that will always stick with me, for it has never been explained ( and I have never used one since). My older brother lived in a bed-sit, in a large old house, along with 7 others - male and female. And we use to mess around with Ouija boards. But it was at a time when they were moving from something mystical to a play thing, and to be honest we didn’t think of it other than a bit of amusement!
Over the weeks we had been gathering in my brothers room and messing with the thing, you know, pushing it along spelling stuff just to mess around. None of us took it seriously, as I have already said. But I started to become very interested in the whole concept of it, because of having unresolved issues with losing my grandmother, when I was thirteen (never having had the chance to say goodbye!)
So I started doing research, and asking anyone I knew about how to get the thing working. I was told that to cunger a powerful spirit the Ouija board needed to be written on a glass mirror! And instead of turning the glass upside down, leave it the right way up, and put a drop of one of the persons blood in it!
So the time came when I had drawn a Ouija board on the underside of my brothers chest box, that for some reason had a mirror on its underside, which was perfect because we could flip the lid and use it at anytime. Then came the night of are little game, as we saw it. I explained to them all what I had learnt. One, who was an African Student, who had not been involved in any of the other Ouija board games we played – when he walked into the room and was what we were doing he called us mad, and grabbed his coat and bolted out the front door! So that left me, my brother and 5 others. And I have always had bad nosebleeds since I was a child, and as we sat down around the board my nose started to bleed, just a dribble. Of course, being young and stupid I put it in the glass!
Now we had a glass Ouija Board and blood in a up-right glass. So we started.
We called any spirit we could think of. Nothing?
We tried element spirits. Nothing.
Until one of my friends went to stand to say he needed the toilet, and as soon as his hand left the glass, the room was engulfed in a wind that blew around the room, billowing the curtains almost straight up! This could have simply been the wind, so we ignored it. So we all sat around making jokes that we had called a wind spirit. So we waited and joked, waiting for our friend to return from the toilet. Until there was a knock at the front door of the huge old house. Answering it, I found my friend who had gone to the toilet, dazed and leaning on one foot, saying he had fallen out of the bathroom window! It caused a huge commotion and everyone gathered around. The bathroom was on the second floor, and he had broken his ankle falling out! But when we went to the bathroom, to try and workout why he had fallen, the window in the bathroom was closed tight! I must admit a funny thing was he was still holding the crumpled cigarette than he was smoking when he fell from the window!
So of course we packed the board away, some thinking it was because of the board, others just saying out mate was confused. So my brother and mates packet him into one of my mates cars and took him to check out his ankle! I couldn’t fit in the car, plus having to get up early for work I headed home walking. I thought nothing more of it. Four or so hours after getting home, my brother phoned from the hospital. I was expecting him to say if our mate was ok. He shocked me by explaining that on the way to the hospital the car had hit a post! My brother broke 4 ribs. And everyone in the car broke or damaged something, luckily none were killed. All were discharged after being patched up and sorted out. The next day we were all in my brothers room again, moaning and groaning, when the African lad came bounding in (who had ran off when he saw what we were doing) to explain he had been sacked that day! And was accusing all of us, because of doing the Ouija Board. The only one in the house that wasn’t effected was me! Was it because it was my blood that was used? I have no answer, and was wondering if anyone else has been involved or has heard of anything like this before?

It might be just bad luck. But I really don't believe in the Ouija board. I think that most of the time it's just in the people's head and they just say stuff just so they have a story. Just wondering... was it an original Ouija board? Thank God you and all of your friends came out alive from that crash.

I think you have every right to have your own views, and it's brave of you to say so on these pages, with so many believers.
The following true account I put on an older thread, so you may have missed it.
My mum has a friend who was a police officer serving in Salford, a district of Manchester, in the 1960's.
Each weekend, his sister, a young woman (21 I think), and her friend would let their husbands go off to the pub, lock the doors, and indulge in their favourite past time. The ouija board.
One night, the police officer was called to a disturbance. He arrived, and found to his shock, a crowd of people around his sister's house. Her husband was worried. He couldn't get a response from inside the locked house. The police officer and his colleague broke down the door. What they found inside was shocking.
One of the women was lying unconscious on the floor. His sister was sat in her armchair, a look of terror on her face. She was stone dead.
A post mortem revealed that this otherwise healthy young woman had died of a massive heart attack.

Junior year of high school we had a "sleepover" at one of my friends house, and her parents had a ouija board, so we decided to try it out.
We turned out all the lights and lit a few candles. We each just barely placed our fingertips on the planchette and asked for contact.
after a few minutes the planchette began to move in a circular motion and finally spelled out. "I'm Here".
we asked it various questions and got the spirit to give us a name after a long while. Amazingly it predicted things to come with accuracy.
Later at school I was talking to a guy who was a close friend and we got into the subject of the ouija and he said that they did that a couple weeks ago too. I asked him if they had gotten a name from their spirit and he said yes... when he told me the name it was the same name as the one we talked too. I asked him if he had talked to any of the others about it and he said he hadn't, and I knew that already, because he didn't hang out with the people I was with that night, but I had to ask.
Well I was freaked but not enough. we continued to use the board on several occasions but one night at my best friends house something happened that made us all vow to never use another oiuja board again.
We did not have a board at her house so we made one. ya, we made it.
We took a piece of paper and drew out all the letters and symbols the way they appear on a board then we found a clear shallow glass dish that we used to use for gum and stuff (heart shaped even). Well we made contact and like a few previous times we were talking to TWO spirits rather than one. One was good and the other was not... or so it seemed. I guess we will never know if it was just one messing with us. The one we were used to contacted us first but we got interrupted halfway through and the planchetter started doing 8's instead of circles. And it said "stop", we all just looked at each other and shrugged it went on.. it told us that the other spirit was evil and was going to try to harm one of us that night if we continued. We kind of laughed and started making accusations as to who was controlling the planchette and then quite suddenly the makeshift planchetter jerked out from under all of our fingertips and started to move towards my best friend. It moved OFF THE PAPER and across the floor at her. She climbed up on the bed and one of the other girls picked up the glass dish and hurled it out the window.
We stayed up the rest of the night scared to death that if we fell asleep something would happen to her. Fortunately we all made it through the night and vowed never to use one of those things again.
And to my knowledge none of us have.

I've always wanted to try to use the board but have read way to many bad experiences related to them. I also for the longest time had a hard time finding them in the stores everytime i went and took it as a sign. I never wanted to make one as I always wanted to use the real thing. Then one day while dropping of a bag of clothing to the salvation army my fiance (now wife) found a prefectly good board in it's box sitting beside the drop. So i took it.....
I haven't used it yet because every bad experience i've read so far has started out with something like the above mentioned. I have no intrest in talking to bad spirits and want only to maybe speak deceased loved ones.... so... we'll see if i get the nerve to get into it or not.

I always assumed the ones that you buy already made were the fake ones. A priest told me it does not matter whether you buy or make one. And from most post here it seems that way as well.
I have a new one now. Even though I had a bad experience, I bought it too face my fear. I can't get it to work though. The only thing I do not understand is why so much negative energy come through that board as opposed to other tools like tarot, runes, automatic writing etc.
In the channeling class I was in, the psychic said it was lower entities that are messing with the board, and as long as you understand stand that it is safe to play with.

You're braver than I, Sarkypi!
A word of caution, regarding what the psychic told you. I've heard from two seperate ghost investigators (one psychic), that there are entities that are seperated from our "plane" (or whatever) by something akin to a door or window. These entities will lie, cheat, and pretend to be anything or anyone, (even dead relatives) just to be invited across.
But they can only cross over if they are encouraged, by people like yourself, with psychic leanings.
And these entities are not people, nor have they ever been. One investigator refered to them as elementals.
Just be careful, Sarkypi.

Oh Cufflink,
Thank you for the warning...
I shall be more cautious. I did have a bad experience years ago with a board once, but I chalked it up to youth, and inexperience. My friend reads runes, and negative energy came through for him during a reading. I figure everything has potential to bring in negativity.
I mostly bought this board just to face my fear, so I doubt I am braver than a knight.

I happen to collect several different occult type things. One of them is the planchette. I've had my eye open on auction sites and in pawn jobs, old second stores for a number of years now. I have 5 presently in my collection. I view them as portals allowing the spirits closest to those gateways (good and bad) to try and communicate with the unknowing.
My time era sought after is anything prior to the 1960s, and my oldest is a planchette I've been able to determine as being from the late 1800s. The family I bought it from had it and the accompanying Ouija board set out for sale at a garage sale.
You can find neat *junk* at garage sales. I have no idea as to exact value on these items. I paid as little as $15 dollars for one and as high as $300 and some change for another. If anyone can point me in the direction of anyone that might have a planchette for sale...I'll gladly pay a finders fee, but it has to be during the timespan listed above.
I've had one circumstance where I found a planchette in an estate sale and upon picking it up felt nauseous.
Connected? I dunno. I dropped it and made no attempt to purchase it.

Daring Souls,
I don't want a finding fee.... but thought you might be intrested in this ebay sales of an old Ouija Board set. Doesn't have exact date on it.... but none the less you can tell it's an older model.

Hey... that was nice of you, Mystify. I've never participated in the CA ebay before. I joined and cast my bid. Cross your body parts for me everyone!
That planchette actually looked a little older than my oldest one, if that is possible. It could just be that it was more worn. The older ones are made from a couple of different materials. I don't have that info at my fingertips...but it is interesting to read the variety of styles made over the years. Thanks again, Mystify!

I heard that they work better with someone of the opposite sex. Is it worse to use it alone? Why? What happens?

For most users of the boards its much more dangerous alone as you may not have the energy to dispell what you call up.The more people you have the more energy you can pull on.
Personally when I use mine I cast a circle of protection around whomever is participateing.
