Well, the Jedi religion seems to be a blending of Taoism, Zen Buddhism, and Zoroastrianism. In the final analysis it's designed to work with the plot of the Star Wars series. If it seems weird, just remember L. Ron Hubbard "cooked up" Scientology...look at what's happened there, *shudder*.
