I thought i might post this to try to get a explanation. I was at my nan and grandads screwing around with one of those battery tester things with the 2 spikes connected to the actual unit. (if nobody knows what im on bout ill try find a picture) Anywayz i put the 2 spikes to my fingers one on my left hand the other on the right and the needle on the tester shot right up, at first i thought nothing of it and then i tried it on my nan and grandad and the needle didnt even budge anyone got any explanations??? hmm.gif

Static Charge....

You are experiencing the impedence that normally occurs through human skin. This is actually on of the items measured by Polygraphs (lie-detectors). The conductivity of the skin changes due to stress. You can, with a little practice, make the needle on the multimeterdance up and down.

^Im going with what he said. It is nothing out of the ordinary.

I agree with aquatus and Rambo's points, and static charge wouldn't affect a multimeter this way. It also depends on how the meter was set; It could have been set to measure resistance, which the human body has plenty of. Later, when you tested it on the others, you may have done something differently.

so what ur saying is i was stressed at the time lol??

I use to date a guy that sometimes if I lightly touched the skin on his back or chest.. it felt like electricity was running through his body... never known anyone else that felt that way... and we ust to joke that he would one day just go up in flames...

But seriously .. I always wondered why he had that feeling when I touched him... scary

No. My bet is that the multimeter was set to measure resistance, not voltage.

The nervous system is weird. If I touch the inside of my right upper arm, the I feel pressure on the back of my left eyeball. My mother has a spot on her head, which, if scratched or touched, will make her nose itch. laugh.gif Or perhaps your boyfriend was just particularly excited that you were touching him. whistling2.gif

That dont explain why it never read my nan and grandad??

Maybe the multimeter changed its settings when u moved it. Or maybe it has something to do with body fat index or something.

Once when i was little i got up in the morning to make some toast. I put the toaster on with the bread in it. At one stage the toast got jammed. So while the toaster was on, i grabbed a full metal knife and jammed it in the toaster. I remember putting the knife right on the element. Sparks flew everywhere. I thought cool and kept doing it for awhile. eventually i got bored and stopped. The toast was well burnt at this stage, so i thought stuff it. I told mum about it later that day. So she did what any parent would do and smacked my butt red.

Ive never done that again. But its weird how the body does some weird sh** sometimes.

The settings probably got changed when you tested it on them. It doesn't seem like you're too familiar with the workings of a multimeter, so you couldn't be blamed for accidentally changing a setting.

Edit: Oops, missed part of your post googiboo. That's an excellent thought about the BMI. Actually one method of testing BMI is to measure the resistance of your body. If I recall correctly, fatty or muscular tissue doesn't conduct as well.

I'm always using knives to lever things out of toasters - especially things like crumpets. Never managed to catch the wires inside though, guess I'm just careful (or lucky LOL) though saying that I do make sure the knife I use has a non-conductive handle...
