I was reading The Sun newspaper today over here in the UK, and was absolutly shocked when reading about a poor dog who was kidnapped from her family and subjected to horrendous torture and left to die in agonising pain for three days.
I agree with the campaign that the paper is doing, that this should deserve worse consequences...life is a life, no matter form it's in. Obviously you shouldn't get arrested for stepping on a spider, that's just natural, but that dog went through hell...dogs have feelings too and this man most he could get is 10 weeks...
I mean if you think of it what is the difference between this man and a dog? anyone killed him they'd get life...the only difference between these two creatures...the dog was a simple minded creature who all probably wanted to do was run around and be loved by her family...where this scum gets off on causing pain to innocent creatures....

Also this dog was actually rescued from an abusive owner, by her owner at the time of her death....so the poor thing had quite a bad life apart from the time with her new family...

This is a horrible story. I couldn't imagine one of my pets going through something like that. The guy definately deserves more than just 10 weeks in prison. Anyone know the punishments on this sort of thing in the States?

In my opinion animal cruelty is just about as low as anyone can sink. In my eyes those who commit such disgusting crimes became less than human and should be removed from society.

I can't even bring myself to read about cases of animal cruelty as it upsets me too much. How anyone could hurt such a defenceless things in the way they do just disgusts me. I used to work part time in an animal sanctuary and it was horrible hearing what happened to some of the animals there. I can't imagine ever mistreating my wee dog or letting anyone else near her. I can barely bring myself to tell her off never mind hurt her.

I wouldn't go quite as far as Solidsnake in equating killing an animal as murder, I'm a meat eater after all, however I do not understand systamatic cruelty whether it be against an animal or a human. Many off us are capable of lashing out if pushed far enough, maybe even killing under some circumstances but that is not the same is getting enjoyment from another creatures suffering.
I can't help feeling that anyone that will deliberately inflict the maximum pain on another living thing is, in someway, mentally impaired.
In someways I can not see any difference to the morons that committed this crime and the upper class morons who are protesting so much because they are no longer allowed to use their hounds to rip foxes limb from limb.
A sentence was just passed in Australia to a man who stabbed a police dog killing it.
He received a minimum of 7yrs jail time.

About time cruelty was punished accordingly.

I read that story in the Sun. I can't actually describe how angry and upset I was. That man doesn't deserve to live for what he has done.

Studies on serial killers have shown a common tendency to harm and torture animals before they turn to on humans.
It seems to me common sense that a minimum of a year of psychiatric in house treatment should be used for acts of violence of this magnitude. Not only would this policy reduce future harm to animals but reduce harm to people as well.

This kind of thing sickens me
I think they should make the laws on cruelty to animals harsh....like if a dog is found totturded like that and the person/persons are found they should serve at least 10 years..ohh I am serious...dead serious!!!
I am a fan of

I've got to echo Bella-Angelique. The purposeful torture of an animal speaks of intense psychological issues and should be dealt with before children start disappearing.
About the man who got 7 years for knifing the police dog -- Here, police dogs are considered officers and if you injure one, you are charged with assault on a police officer. It has a much more serious sentence than regular animal abuse.

"Seal hunting in wild Norwegian coastal nature could be sold as an exclusive product to tourists.
"Sea mammals are a greater consumer of fish than what we humans catch.
"There are imbalances in the ecosystem," Mr Ludvigsen said.
"There is no scientific justification in general for seal culling," said Helen Briggs of the UK's Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).
"And tourists are not going to have the level of expertise to make a clean kill. They are not going to be particularly efficient at it."
Mr Ludvigsen said "There is no difference between selling hunting licenses for moose and selling such for seals. This could be a hit"...

Ya know, I'd vowed to myself not to read this thread due to the fact that animal cruelty gets me quite upset.
I think this guy should get 20 to life in a small prison cell with a big guy who goes by the name of "bubba".
Once the other inmates find out what he's there for, they would probably give him a nice, big dose of his own medicine.

I get so angry when I hear of people not paying attention to their pets, much less torturing an animal!!

I am chief human to 5 four-legged beasts. (notice I didn't say I have 5 cats, I think the cats have me.

Any story I hear makes me sick to the stomach. We rescued a cat called Rosie 8 years ago..she'd been kicked out of her home because she was ill and they couldnt be bothered to look after her. We gave her a good life and she was very happy. She died last Saturday-purring to the end. I miss my Rosie.
Cruelty of any form makes me so angry..I think people need mental help or putting down

Its obvious people who do Animal Cruelty deserve punishment, however I think you have to determine a lot of things when sentencing someone for such a crime.
1. Are you doing so to punish, or to rehabilitate? (since a majority of reported cases are by youngsters, are you trying to curb the youngster back into society, or just punish him for it and hope he learns his lesson)
2. The jail system is heavily overcrowded, and costs a lot of money to keep inmates locked away. Im not sure what the repeat rate is for people who commit these crimes, but it could be costing the average taxpayer a lot of money for a few years in a cell...
Either way, Im big on people learning a lesson, and paying for the mistake they have made. However if say a 15 year old commits a crime... and gets locked up.... I would have thought the costs to society might outweigh the benefits, where the money could be set up elsewhere to either prevent... or some other method.
..Now someone Im sure will think Im saying they dont deserve to be locked up, that is not my point at all..... I think sometimes what people deserve, and what actually helps society... can be two different things.

I presume all you animal lovers are vegetarian, then?
Don't agree with cruelty to animals, or to anything really, but I think we should address a few basic hypocrisies (those of us who do eat meat).
