The Legend of Zelda: Hero of Time

QUOTE
The Hero of Time (The Legend of Zelda) is an full-length, independent Zelda movie being made by a small group of producers and film buffs called "BMB Finishes". They have been working on this movie for the past two years, and it is now nearing completion. It is a fully independent production that when finished will be promoted as a festival piece, as well as a Zelda fan-made film. All of the people making the movie are big fans of the Zelda series, and they have put a ton of creativity and effort into this film. The movie is being directed and produced by Joel Musch. David Blane is also producing the film on top of starring as Link.

The movie's story is roughly based off that of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Link, who has been raised by the Kokiri, is sent to Hyrule City by the Great Deku Tree. Once there, he meets Princess Zelda who tells him what the Triforce symbol on his hand means and exactly who he is,

Meanwhile, Ganon has arranged a banquet for the king, but this gesture, seemingly in good faith, is just a part of his evil scheme. At the banquet, the king is poisoned, and Ganon overthrows the kingdom. Link flees to the Temple of Time and takes the Master Sword, but is shocked when he finds he has suddenly traveled into the future. Link discovers that it is a bleak future, for Ganon has destroyed the land, and so he sets out to find Zelda. Along the way he meets Sheik, and learns that he will need the help of the sages to defeat Ganon. After he defeats demons that are guarding the sages, Link returns to Hyrule where he confronts donzens of Gerudo warriors and ultimately fights Ganon.

Fan films by their very nature are obviously going to be of somewhat low quality and will look somewhat silly due to not be able to re-create action scenes like in a hollywood blockbuster and the way they are filmed so I think anyone who does make a fanfilm, especially when they pour lots of their own money into something, deserves praise for a start.

But i personally think this looks pretty damn good, especially considering it is a fan film.

It does have that certain fan made feel to it (the costumes, lighting etc) but I think it all comes together to make a pretty decent package. Link looks alright, the action looks alright and I love the music used, totally fits the Zelda feel.

And I have to say that in the second half when the montage of action is going and the 'COURAGE', 'POWER' etc is flashing on the screen that I totally got into it... If i ever were able to get my hands on the finished product, which they do plan on trying to release, I know I would get it.

A proper, live action, big budget Zelda film seriously needs to be made and I have to say, Hero of Time would be a good title for it, if they were to base it on OoT which I think they should.

It actually looks pretty good, I'll watch the full version.

If an official Zelda film ever was made, though, I don't think a live action film would work. It would just end up looking really corny and stupid.

To me, this one even looks really corny. Don't get me wrong, I love Zelda, but it just looks...corny.

If you made a Zelda movie and gave it a Lord of the Rings feel I think it could work.

To me, Zelda (and especially Ocarina of time) is all about the freedom you have to go explore anything you want at almost any time. Therefore I doubt I'd like a movie very much.
Cudos for making it tho thumbsup.gif

With the quality of Zelda games that Nintendo have created over the years I doubt any movie could live up to expectations, especially one based upon Ocarina of Time. But having said that I will still give it a look being the massive Zelda fan I am.

Well John Woo is producing a live action Metroid movie although that project is kinda on the backburner at the moment I think but there are rumours that. after the Metroid film Nintendo are interested in doing a Zelda and another Mario film. There are also rumours that Nintendo are gonna produce an animated Mario movie at some point...

Once Silent Hill hits and studios realise that there is a market for faithful game to movie adaptations (cos let's face all the ones so far, with the exception of Super Mario Bros imo have sucked) and I think then it will only be a matter of time before we start seeing more and more game adaptions...

At any rate, I think a Zelda movie will definately come along sooner or later, whether its animated or live action is another question really. I know I would prefer it to be done in live action and I think it could work. Obviously changes would need to be made because like with Mario, you can't simulate the game on film (running around with a slingsho or running around jumping on the heads of your enemiest etc) but what they can do is stick to the core of the story, keep the atmosphere and the characters and locations and general feel of the game and going along LOTRs route make a decent film. But if a Zelda film was to be made it shouldn't be a copy of LOTR, it should be it's own film, it should be a trend setter within the fantasy genre...

But I really think a live action Zelda could really work... Just imagine seeing Link riding Epona for the first time on a cinema screen or Link fighting Ganon at the top of the castle tower... The concept of OoT with the time travelling and the 3 triforce peices and everything would be pretty new to cinema and coupled with the fantasy epic thing I think audiences would lap it up...

This isnt a real trailer surely? It didnt have a real feel to it, and why are they asking for donations through paypal if they are being funded? Is anyone in agreement with me thinking that this is a little movie made by the people on that site asking for it to be made professionally?

It's a real trailer for a real fan made film currently in production. As far as I can see the people who are making the film don't have anything to do with the owning/running of that site, it is just somewhere they are hosting/advertising their film. And they aren't 'funded'.. They are funding their project with their own money so they're asking for donations because as we all know money doesn't grow on trees... So no, I don't think there is any hidden agenda behind this film..

How humbly I apolgise, well if they are funding it themselves and asking for donations dont expect to see it in youur nearest Odeon anytime in the next fifty years.

Do I detect a slight bit of sarcasm? But there is no need to apologise, you thought something and stated your opinion. But the people making this film are not deluded, they know that this film will not get a theatrical release. That is the whole point of a fan film... A very low budget, self funded, often low quality film made by fans, of their favourite show/comic whatever it may be to be put on the internet or shown at Comic Conventions, to show other fans and gain a little praise and 'fame' within the comic/internet/fan film community.. there is also the aspect of making it for fun.

There is one quite well known, possibily even infamous, fan film on the internet made by a guy called Sandy Collara, called Batman: Dead End where Batman fights with Joker, an Alien (from the Alien films) and a couple of Predators. He later followed it up with Worlds Finest featuring Batman and Superman. Both are quite highly thought of within the fan film/interner/comic community.

And if by your comment you were just having a dig at the quality of it then I don't see the point in that. It is low quality, there is no question about that, it is not so much the point but to put together a lot of your own money (Batman: Dead End was made for around $30,000 of Sandy's own money) and put in the time and effort to do everything required (and imo it turned out ok considering) then they atleast deserve a little praise for trying.

I think it is great that they want to make a film because the love Zelda so much, I honestly do. I just done think they will get any approval from Nintendo. All I am saying is that proper actors, proper budgets and professional filming could make Ocarina a classic.

Kudos to them for making their own version though
