The Mothership

For a while now, a couple of months, The Mothership has been docked in the INTERWEB's harbour. Some may recall I updated those interested with it's progress in my blog up until just before it launched.

Then, BOOM, Silence filled the air. Questionable, that Silence would fill the air with a boom, but...regardless, I STFUed myself to a collossal extent.

See, there are some members of UM I love. Most, actually. And I did not want them to see work that I felt was second rate. As a psuedo-cartoonist, I had to start somewhere, and my ugly ugly artwork was to become the subject of myth on some webcomic forums.

But, as time went on, my work improved. I was sutle, at first. I left a modest banner in my signiture. I directed some of my best-est-est UM friends to the ship. But last week I produced the first comic I am really proud of. A certian level of expected pride engulfs all of my work, but this peice was something I loved.

As well as that, our readership is increasing at a rather rapid rate. At this point, we have around 600 regular readers, and our total unique visitors goes well into the thousands.

As such, I feel its time I made a thread here, hoping to get some of my much loved UM family visiting the site and offering me feedback. So, click away.

All feedback is verily appreciated. thumbsup.gif

NOTE: The Mothership is lightly seasoned with mild to violent swearing and cursing, as well as numerous sexual references. If you're not into that kind of thing, you probably shouldn't click on.

NOTE: The comic is not located on the homepage, as I would not want to unwittingly offend anyone through my work, should they accidently stumble in. As such, you need to click onto the Archive or latest comic to view the comic.

You should check some books out of the local library about drawing people. I know that comics aren't drawn realistically, but it helps to know the rules before you start breaking them.

If you work hard enough you can do amazing things with mspaint. However, it would help to get something a bit more powerful. I usually use GIMPshop myself. It's freeware, and you can get it here. It mimics photoshop pretty well and is easy to use.

I actually use Photo Shop 7, as well as ULEAD. Still getting to grips with both.

I'm aware of the problem with my body figures and, as you can see, am undergoing some major artwork changes. Recepetion to these changes is good, as our number of readers has grown astonishing lengths since the changes began.

Needless to say, the changes are a work in progress. So far the faces have been re-worked. In my next couple of comics colour coordination will be altered, and body figures and shading will be accomplished in the final steps.

Thank you for feedback yes.gif

I love it!

I don't get many gamer jokes, but the other ones are fab.

And drawing isn't that important!

Sadly it is sad.gif

Writing will keep a member, and really good writing will gain them (which is why we had a readership before I began artistic changes tongue.gif) but art is what attracts them long enougth for them to become invested.

Look at our hits...

These are our weekly unique visitors.

Looking at them for a second proves it once and for all - Art is important. And as a writer, I hate that. But I'm improving.

Yeah, you could check some books at the local library or you could ask my mom to teach you.

Necks are more hour glass-shaped; they are big at the top and bottom and get smaller at the middle. They also attach at about ear level to the head.

You guy's ears are very high. Ears normally are one third above eye level, and two thirds below. Your guy also has no forehead, and this looks akward because his hair sticks straight up and his forehead should be exposed.

Does the girl have long hair all around the back? If she does, then you need to fill in those spaces between her hair and her head.

I'll scan my head diagrams when I get home, and put them up for you.
