Worst, off the top of my head:

1. The Fog
2. King Kong 1970s version
3. Romeo & Juliet

Best:

1. King Kong 2005
2. Lord of the Rings. The cartoon version was....hideous
Tengu
Best:
Ocean's Eleven
Meet Joe Black
Lord of the Rings
Anna and the King

Worst:
Charlie's Angels
Psycho
The Invisible Man
The Stepford Wives
nephilim
Best: King Kong
Worst: Dawn Of The Dead
Bella-Angelique
I enjoyed The Fog and Stepford Wives remakes.

Other remakes I enjoyed were Planet of the Apes, King Kong 2005, The Addams Family, Oceans' Eleven, and Haunted.

I refused to even look at the Red Planet remake. The original was bad enough as maybe one of the worst movies ever.
TheCrow
The Best?

Airplane! (As much as it is a spoof, it's a remake of a 50's disaster movie called Zero Hour down to plot and even, in some cases, dialogue)
King Kong
The Fly
Scarface
Oceans 11
The Blob
The Magnificent Seven (a remake of The Seven Samurai)

Other remakes that are good include:

The Italian Job
The Mummy
Longest Yard
Mean Machine
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Hills Have Eyes

IMO LOTR, Narnia etc are not remakes... They are different takes, different adaptations of a novel, and in the case of LOTR, has not been done in live action before. Comic-book movies, movies based on novels, and most movies based on TV series don't qualify as remakes imo. They're adaptations. The many versions of Alice in Wonderland are adaptations. Spider-Man is an adaptation. Lost in Space is an adaptation.

There are rare exceptions where TV shows are concerned, especially in circumstances where the original cast actually makes the leap from the small screen to the big screen. These actually would qualify as spinoffs, since they tie directly into the series itself. Munster, Go Home! was a spinoff. The Star Trek movies are spinoffs. Ali-G: The Movie was a spinoff.

IMO the term 'remake' relates to any movie that retells a story that has already been told in its original inception on the big screen.. King Kong '76 and '05 are remakes of the original film. The Ring is a remake of a Japanese film. Batman Begins is not a remake of the Tim Burton movie, it is more of a re-start but it's an adaptation of the comic book.

I'm not trying to be over strict on the subject, of course, you can be a little leniant on the subject such as movies based on TV shows, like Lost In Space, you could call it a re-imagining or a remake if you must and of course, you may have your own 'rules' for this but there are times when you just have to say, 'look, such and such is blah blah blah' like with Lord of the Rings, it is not a remake, it's an adaptation.

While we are on the subject of remakes I would love to see new versions of the universal monsters.. Frankenstein, Dracula, Creature From the Black Lagoon (Guillermo Del Toro is producing a new version of this), The Wolfman (Benico Del Toro is set to star in one!) and The Mummy (a proper horror version).

I would also love to see a new Wizard of Oz, done with todays technologies and more dark and closer to the book...
Tengu
OOh I forgot all about Narnia and I just bought the DVD. Loved that movie...And Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was good too although not really a remake either if you ask me...

The Hulk. Hated that movie. I didn't want Dr. David Banner to be evil. I loved Bill Bixby in the tv series and then they go and screw it up in the movie. Ick. I kinda count it as a re-make...

A movie remake that I enjoyed was probably Dawn of the Dead. It wasn't better than the original, but it wasn't terrible. The Longest Yard wasn't bad either.

I did not like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I even saw the Next Generation with Renee Zellweger. Godzilla (1998 version) is pretty bad too.

A remake that I enjoyed was the Longest Yard. That's the most recent. I don't watch remakes because they aren't very original. The worst remake idea I've heard was an American remake of Old Boy, since it's a recent movie.

The shining , the one with jack nicholson in was in my opinion one of the greatest horrors ever the "other" shining....a pile of wanke! excuse my french! w00t.gif

Best: King Kong
Worst: Dawn Of The Dead

There was never a remake of the Dawn of the Dead. The 'newer' version is actually considered a different everything, just similiar to the other.

Can I suggest adding - which movie do you want to see remade?

I'd like to see a Bladerunner redo. People tell me it's sacrilege, but in all reality, I think it can work yes.gif

Very cool movie - 1920's silent film. THe robot in that was the template for C-3PO, and the city the template for Bladerunner. If it weren't for Metropolis, our sci-fi climate would be wildly different.

I was studying it for uni last year...... loved it, especially the scenes underground with the workers slaving at the machine's.

Good choice Byuu - Metropolis would be a good remake choice thumbsup.gif

Not to mention Rotwang set the template of the mad scientist. The classic Frankenstein movie came out about six years afterwards. The special effects are brilliant for the time, and still hold up rather well.
Hitler actually asked Lang to make Nazi movies for him, because he viewed Freder as being Jewish. Lang politely turned him down, and fled the country a couple of years later.

LOVE that movie!! I agree, it should be redone. Exactly the same. No dialogue. I honestly don't think people will go for it, but maybe the curious or even the pretentious people who want to see a fantastic movie will enjoy it!
Who would do the soundtrack?
Paranoid Android
