Full Version: A Serious Question about "Police State"...

Though I'm keeping this post a bit light, I do have a Grievous question (heh - okay, bad humor, whatever).

Does anyone know where I could look up information in US policies regarding war-time rules and police states?

I know this sounds nuts, but what else is new on this board? I was watching Episode 3 the other night and thought, "Hey, if the US is in a police state or in an all-out war during the last few months of Bush's term, can he STAY in office AFTER his term until things 'pan out'?" blink.gif

Like I said, just a question. I was wondering if we were gonna have a Palpatine incident on our hands in January of 2009. Intuition is saying "look out!" And rarely is my intuition wrong. innocent.gif

A point in the right direction regarding such policies would be appreciated. I've no idea where to even begin my search.

May the force be with you, notworthy.gif

LOL

It was just a thought that occured to me. Can any American president do that? I just had a friend call me and she said emphatically "no". At the same time, she couldn't tell me where to research it.

I don't know, maybe it's a moot point. I'm just curious. blush.gif

I know by law that a president can't but if he get's the majority of votes for change, he could stay in office, although, I don't think the senate would aprove :/

I would think that Congress would step in sometime before Bush would be able to turn the U.S. into a police state. Maybe not... ph34r.gif
Going to the all-wise Wikipedia, and browsing around on Google a bit, I wasn't able to come up with anything definite, but did find it interesting to note that a government never characterizes ITSELF as a police state, but is given the description from those outside the government.
I would think that somewhere the system of "checks and balances" would shut Bush down before he has the chance to do serious damage, but maybe I'm wrong.

Just something to think about. thumbsup.gif

yeah, let's see if they step in and do something, or not...

either way, it's a scary thought if he will stay in office :S
