I'll be forever grateful to Stan Winston for predator (and everything else he's done!) and H.R Giger for his beautiful artwork and the alien creature. Brilliant.
I love the first Alien movie, Sig Weaver couldn't have been better. And the effects were pretty good considering they're old movies. I think the fact that both the predator and alien creatures were real added to the quality of the effects. I loved the landscape and the starships in Alien too. Plus the acting was spectacular.
I think it was Cameron's best, but that's just me.
I'm now looking into buying some of the comics and books made after the both A and P movies. So if anyone could suggest the best one's they've read I'd appreciate it.

Anyway, feel free to discuss!

Alien 1 and 2 were really good. Predator 1 was awesome, probably one of the best movies I enjoyed in theater so far. Predator 2 was not bad but I thought AVP really sucked...I mean really.
The costumes, effects and all were fantastic in both Alien and predator movies. The Alien and Predator models themselves were excellent!

I liked Alien... and Aliens... Cant remember the other ones in the series too well....
I liked predator, but thought predator 2 wasnt overall that good.
Alien vs Predator had a number of problems... I mean one off the top of my head is that the first part of the movie seems to be made from the Predators point of view...Which when your watching a horror/thriller type movie, makes it very hard to get scared, because the main viewpoint is not one you can identify with...
Ill leave that there lol

I had the privaledge on the day of my 20th birthday to see the original Alien, remastered, in the theatre. It was quite the experience, considering the Alien Trilogy were, as a kid, my favourite movies of all time. I also snuck into the theatre to see Ressurection when i was, i think, 13. But i wasn't too impressed unfortunately. Alien is a cinematic masterpiece, a true original sci-fi horror for it's time that is well directed and created, not to mention cast ideally.
Aliens, naturally, is my favourite of the series. While it's more action packed than Alien, it still retains it's suspenseful horror feeling. Again well cast, and overall extremely entertaining to watch, even if it is a little slow to start.
Alien3, well there aren't many people that don't agree that it's a letdown. For the director, firstly, to just kill off three of the survivors in the opening credits is just a nightmare. But i don't care that it has no weapons, for the most part it is still entertaining and while the story starts of crappy, the end to the Trilogy is well created.
Unfortunately, they brought it back. And it was actually Weaver's idea, she co-wrote and produced Ressurection and it kind of shows, the story is basically very weak and cliche, and for the most part it seems they just wanted to update the Alien Trilogy with a fourth entry to show CG effects to the prime. The whole thing with the Alien/Human Hybrid just makes me shake my head though. I honestly would like them to make a fifth Alien movie to finalize the whole franchise, kill off Ripley for good, etc. It's been in talks for awhile but Sigourney Weaver is not getting any younger so i'm not sure if it will happen.
As for Alien Vs Predator, that's just about the worst thing to ever happen to the Alien franchise. Don't get me wrong, AVP as an idea in itself, as well as comics, games etc is fantastic, and a fantastic movie *could* have been made out of it, IF a money-hungry idiot with no directing skills wasn't put at the helm. A PG rating? A PG RATING!!?? What other Alien, or Predator movies have been for kids, so why the hell should this be one? The story was awful, and that's saying alot considering the basic idea for it was pulled from the comics. There's so many flaws and holes and ugh, it's just an unplesant experience to discuss in general. Utter dissapointment. There was so much potential, and Anderson flushed it all down the drain so he could expand the possible theatre audience and line his pocket with gold.
No wonder he didn't allow a critic pre-screening.
Phew, this is going on abit but i still have to cover the Predator movies. Naturally, Predator is again an utter delight to enjoy. 'GET TO DA CHOPPAH!! DO EET, DO EET NAOW!! KILL MEEE!! WHAT YOUR WAITING FOAR!!!??' Ahh Arnold, this movie wouldn't have been possible without you. I recently picked up the special collectors edition and it's really amazing, fully of featurettes. The original Predator monster actually resembled something of an upright Sauropod (long-necked dinosaur) if you can believe that. Not much to say on it, it's a treat and a joy.
Predator 2 i found did an excellent job in bringing the predator more character, as well as taking it from the Jungle to the City. I really love it, tons of action coupled with some at times really awful acting from people who shouldn't be acting that bad. It adds to the movie in a way.
Interesting note: Bill Paxton has appeared in Aliens, directed by James Cameron. He also appeared in Terminator, and Predator 2. The woman who plays Vasquez in Aliens also co-stars alongside Bill Paxton in Predator 2 and plays John Connors mother in Terminator 2, also directed by James Cameron. I always enjoy the connections between movies and casting.
Anyway, that's me done. It's been rumoured both that Predator 3 has been scripted with agents eyeing Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) as Arnolds counterweight, while ignoring the theatre flop Paul Anderson is going ahead with the sequel to Alien vs Predator. Joy.

I know I remember reading somewhere that it wasnt Anderson that wanted it PG or anything it was the studio that did that and edited out alot of violent content.
i think i read it in an article on IMDB somewhere. So, I dont blame him entirely for what was AVP. I do have to say the movie isnt that bad, if you try and just picture it all as some kinda action movie. I never once thought of it as a horror/thriller, just an action movie with some suspense thrown in with two of the best alien races ever going at each other. though I hattted the ending with the black lady becomes the predators friend and starting fighting the queen with her "alien head helmet"..wouldnt there still be acid in there anyway? I duno, I just think the ending sucked, I wanted just the alien and predator to go at it.
Of course the other movie are totally awsome (though Ressurection being a little less than..). I really should get them all on DvD, I know I've seen all the aliens movies a ton of times on the good ol Space Channel.
one thing i have always just wanted to know more about though is..that space ship they found in the beginning of Alien. With that giant alien sitting at that seat. I found it all really intresting, but also kinda crappy that they didnt explain them at all. I mean it worked, i just really wanted to know more.

Ahh, the Derelict Spacecraft. Subject of much speculation. Who did the craft belong too? Why where there thousands of Eggs on the Craft? We only see it twice, since naturally LV426 is blown to bits at the end of Aliens, so in retrospect we really do know as much about it as the Company in the films.
In Alien you see the Pilot of the Ship. He's a massive Alien with a sort of earless Elephant-like head, with a large trunk. He's been dead for many mnay years of course in the movie, his chest is also burst out. So whatever that Alien race was, they must have been using the Aliens for something, since the ship was filled with the Eggs but no Queen or Drones, just Eggs. Of course, what happened to the Alien that burst out of the Pilot, not to mention the rest of the crew.
If you read the books by Steve Perry, 'Earth Hive', 'Nightmare Asylum' and 'The Female War' more speculation is brought into the franchise. A quick note, the books were based on the comics written as sequels to Aliens, before Alien3 was made. They follow Hicks and Newt several years later as the Earth becomes consumed by the Aliens. One of the creatures,, the same as the Pilot in the Derelict, rescues Hicks and Newt from the Aliens with a sort of Plasma device. I don't remember it well, but the Pilot Alien was depicted as a telepath, and projected images of the Aliens into Newt's mind, explaining that he's trying to wipe them out of existance, etc etc.

Part of the problem that Aliens brings to Alien, is the Queen. Since in Alien there was never a queen or anything, it also makes you wonder how eggs get there in the first place. For a little bit I thought maybe, and this was just my little theory which probably doesnt work, was that the Queen was actually the one who burst out that alien. It would explain the Queens massive size comapared to other aliens. And you could say perhaps she was hiding in that ship somewhere (after all, it was MASSIVE and they barely explored any of it before the sh** hit the fan).
Of course, thats just my wee theory

I'm pretty sure the spacecraft was transporting the eggs. In the comics, the predators actually captured queen aliens and chained them up, like in the movie, so they could harvest the eggs. Then the predators would take the eggs all over the galaxy and discard them on random populated worlds with hosts, so as to allow the aliens to breed and create a perfect hunting ground. I imagine the Pilot Alien was doing something similar with a ship full of eggs.

The alien v predator novel was actually quite good and I was hoping the film would loosely follow it. It was based on a miners planet in the future over run by aliens with predators in the mix too. I won`t tell any off the story incase people want to read it but trust me a lot more interesting then the film and has multiple predator`s and an insight into there culture?!

That is indeed the first of the AVP novels, 'Prey'. You should try to read the following novels. 'Hunters Planet' and 'War' as they follow the woman living amungst the Predators and hunting with them.
The novels are based on the comics, which is also where the idea for the AVP movie came from. If you think about it, there are alot of similarities, including the insight into Predator culture, the woman joining with the Predator in the hopeless situation, etc.

As Jeremy said there, the Predalien isn't a new creation by the movie. Nothing in the movie was really. It's all been done in the comics and games. The main storyline playing as the Predator in AVP is to track down a lost comrade who winds up behind host to a Predalien.
There's nothing original in AVP, it's all been done. The problem was, in the movie it was done really crappy!

the abandoned ship in the first alien movie was based off one of H.R Giger's drawings. The landscape and the inside of the ship is too. I think they threw it in there because it looked cool. It is a shame they didn't add a story too it.
