user posted image rA South Korean Christian group has filed for a court injunction to stop a movie distributor from showing The Da Vinci Code, saying it defiles the sanctity of Jesus Christ and distorts facts. "The Da Vinci Code is a movie which belittles and tries to destroy Christianity," said the Rev Hong Jae-chul of the Christian Council of Korea, an umbrella group of over 60 Korean Protestant denominations. Sony Pictures Releasing of Korea, the movie's local distributor, wasn't immediately available for comment but its public relations agency, News Communications, said it would wait for the outcome of the legal action.Hong indicated the Christian group plans other steps in case the movie, starring Tom Hanks and Ian McKellen, is released as scheduled on May 18, but declined to give further details. The Da Vinci Code is based on Dan Brown's international bestseller, which has sold more than 40 million copies since it was released in March 2003.

Allegations in the novel that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and has descendants have outraged many Christians and been dismissed by historians and theologians. The Christian Council of Korea also asked other Christian organisations around the world to join efforts to block the screening of the movie. South Korea, with a population of 48 million, has 13 million Protestants and 4.6 million Roman Catholics.

So because they dont agree with the movie is about the rest of us should miss out. There is a much simplier, more effective solution, just dont go see it, dont waste your money on something you 'believe' is wrong. Attempting to ban it will just further tarnish their reputation and make them more enemies.

But it will also save some potential christians from turning their backs on this religion. It's just a struggle for influence and power. And it's also not the first time the Christian church is denying some things that are in contradictions with their original "advertisement of God" So I don't see eny thing unusual here... sleepy.gif

Why not turn this into a religion like Scientology laugh.gif That might get this interpretation of the history of Jesus with some credibility. tongue.gif

There are so many religions interpreting who Jesus is, which is the real "chief prophet", the number of gods, etc; with that in mind you can start to realize the contradiction and hypocracy that these South Korean Christian groups are making.

if your belief is strong why worry about a story,, these religous nuts make me laugh all the time, thay never cease to amaze me how petty they can be, why arnt they stopping world leaders killing real people in real wars in the name of religion rather than a book based on a theory based on a tale,, funny

I never understood why these religious leaders get so hung up on something so
petty. I know the story claims that Jesus married Mary Magdeline and had decendants
but even the author Dan Brown said that the story is not true and it's just a murder
mystery. Do these religious leaders truely believe that people will turn away from
their faith because of a movie? Do they think their congregations are completely
brainless? Do they think that the rest of the world is out to belittle them for their
faith? If so they should get out more. Most people don't really care about them.
We have to much s*** to do. These people should concentrate on more important
things like clothing the poor and feeding the hungry etc.

I agree. Any who know anything about the Nazarene hebrews or early Christians of that era would know the last thing they would have been into would have been public or group sex.
It is obviously just a story comprised from bits and pieces of historical trivia and someone's imagination.

Quite funny how a fictional book/movie can cause so much upset isn't it?
Bystanderr
i kind of agree with the ban..but then i also disagree. Like louie said if ur faith is strong why worry? It's a fiction story -___-.

I am a Christian, and I think it is pathetic that others want this movie banned. I read the book and thought it was a fantastic story.

You didn't see Scientists wanting to ban Passions Of The Christ, or other biblical movies because they disagreed with the storyline.

The Christians didn't rant and rave about wanting to ban that movie 'evolution' that came out a couple of years ago and yet that goes against our (Christians) beliefs too.

I think some people whether Christian or whatever, just want something to argue about.

Aztecinca has the right idea. If it's going to offend you, then just don't go see the movie. Don't ruin it for everyone else who is capable of realising fact from fiction for themselves..

Just want to say, that I've read 4 of Dan Browns books and he is a bloody awsome writter thumbsup.gif I hope they make movies of all his books!! Especially Angels and Demons where the Cardinals from the Vatican get gruesomly murdered- Hey, and I did say I was Christian- It's just a movie for Pete's Sake!!

If you don't agree with something, just ban it.
Sounds cool.

Thoughtful
Yeah, I agree, why is it that if a 'group' disagrees with something they have to spoil it for every one else.

They think by people watching this movie then, they will get the wrong impression of Jesus and religion?

I wasn't even interested in religion until I read The Da Vinci Code, I thought it was facinating and it's that book that actually made me start reading the bible and learning about God and Christianity, so I think those Christians that are against this movie should try and look at it from other point of view.

I am a Buddhist and even after seeing Rambo I & 2, I still don't feel like killing people.

Lawhead018
Actually, the want to ban this movie stems from the church that wishes to conceal the truth. The movie is fact based! Im just kidding. Basically we have another case of religious morons who don't know fact from fiction.
War-Junkie
