Hi there,
Just found this site... and im impressed... I cant wait to get a good look around

I have been interested in all things unexplained since a young child and more recently (over the past couple of years) been very interested in out of body experiences (and near death experiences).
I had spare hosting so decided to put together a forum for O.B.E's, right now its just a forum. But I intend to colect users suggestions and build the site with that in mind. First though I need to get some word out about the forum, then I'll start work on building the rest of the site.
The URL:
www.outofthebody.com (updated url)
Look forward to speaking with you there

all the best everyone

Hi folks,
Just to keep you updated.... I have just redesigned and moved the :out of the body: forums to a new domain.
Also I have some dude sending me video footage of an controlled experiement he did with a radio station a while back, it's supposed to show once and for all that OBE's are real..... I await the arrival of that video, and will put it online if suitable

.
The new domain is:
www.outofthebody.comcheers,

Hi Stuart, have you heard about the experiment they will be conducting in hospitals around Britain. Researchers will place unusual objects high up and hidden from sight to those on the ground then anyone claiming to have had an oobe during a near death experience will be questioned as to what they could see while hovering above the room.

Peachy-
They have actually been doing that sort of experiment in the US at hospitals for some time now. As far as I know, no one has awoken to tell the doctors' what they have seen, while under, or while floating out of their bodies. So.........

I think that perhaps some clarity and definition is required with this one.OBE's and NDE's are two completely different phenomena.Although closely related in their decriptions, they generally occur in different circumstances. An OBE can occur when a person is asleep or when they are awake. Many people claim to have experienced this phenomenon whilst under the influence of narcotics. The symptoms range in cases, but generally they include a feeling of lightness, a floating feeling and ultimately rising to the top of the room and looking down on their physical being. They even describe how thier bodies can become distorted in shape.
An NDE is a far more serious phenomenon, at least for the person who experiences it.They occur at the point of death, obviously in all reported cases the subject has eventually recovered and been able to recount the experience. They claim a similar state where they rise from their bodies and are propelled in to incredible experiences. Some describe bright lights, a feeling of travelling down a tunnel towards this light. They can claim to see relatives that have deceased. The main theory that I find plausible is the dying brain syndrome. If a person is brain dead, and by that i mean a brain stem test has been carried out - normally done twice at the appropriate interval - and they are found to be brain dead then they are dead and there is no way that the person can survive, the only reported cases where this has occured has been were the test has failed and the results were wrong. If your brain is dead then your life has ceased. However, there are are many trauma cases where the patient's brain can begin to die.As the brain's functions are affected by the trauma, cells in the brain begin to die off, depending on the severity the patient can obviously recover with either mild or severe brain damage. The point at which this trauma to the brain is at its worst it begins to produce endorphins and enkephalins, neurochemicals that are naturs way of dealing with pain and stress. These to some cause a high, and in the case of a dying petient the effects are fairly similar, although the patient is of course unconscious. This process is increased as the damaged brain struggles for oxygen as the cells that hold it die off, the result is anoxia.
I guess in my long winded way I'm trying to say that an experiemnt in OBE's is one thing, to link it to NDE's and near death is inaccurate, and to be honest what are the chances of sitting in an experimental laboratory in the rather disturbing hope that a person almost perishes?

To be honest it would be far easier IMO to work with those who claim the ablity to induce OBE's rather than people who experience NDE's.
1) You have an ongoing repeatable framework to experiment within.
2) Many NDE experiencers are initially unwilling to talk about it.
I know this has been done in the past with some (questionable) success but maybe a more concerted effort would yeild more promising results.
Phenomenon there's a link somewhere that gives an NDE researchers opinion as to why the dying brain hypothosis can be refuted. Not being an expert I can't vouch for the validity of his arguement but I'll try and find it for you.

This isn't the actual link I wanted to find but it covers all the bases as such.

Hi Stuart:
For some reason I cannot link to your site. I am using Netscape BTW.
As for the out of body experiences, I have had several. The started back when I was a teenager. What I HAVE noticed is that they always happened to me when I was under stress or some emotional trauma. I can't actually control or even predict when they might happen. I did have one weird one, not sure if it was an out of body experience though. I really don't know what it was. I woke up feeling nauseaus, with a feeling like I was lying in a boat or something you know the feeling you get when its swaying or something. When I opened my eyes i saw my reflection in the dresser mirror and I was actually FLOAING just a few inches above the bed. Then I had the feeling you get when you are falling in a dream and just dropped. I have NEVER had such a weird thing happen before. I did not notice if it was the actual me or if there was another me ON the bed...as it happened so fast. Maybe that was what the floating feeling was that made me nauseaus but it was definitely something I don't want to happen again. That one really gave me a scare...but has made me kind of curious too. Any ideas??? The best way I can answer was that the feeling I had was surprise ...then fright.

if you are interested in obe's and astral travel check out the book DMT: the spirit molecule. btw, dmt is the chemical causing obe's and such, it has been found to be naturally produced in the human brain. google it or whatnot
