More Doctor Who news, and it's bad news for those who wanted Eddie Izzard in the role.

I was talking to a drama major at work. She told me, that the British have a seven emotion vocal range, but that Americans have only three. Maybe this adds to better British telly.... U emotional Brits u

What's the consensus on the McCoy era? I enjoyed the stories myself. There was a sense of continuity about them.

Oct 14 2003, 01:32 AM
I really liked McCoy's Doctor from the second series onwards. They gave him free reign with the part, and he and Sophie Aldred built up quite an understanding. It's a shame the show around them wasn't always up to their standards. The Victorian story Ghostlight (I think) was a belter.

ah I think McCoy could have left Sophie behind.

There were too many parallelisms (gosh I'm sure that is spelled wrong) 'tween Ace and Dorthy from the Wizard of Oz.

i dont like him. just for the fact that the show (or movies) are too cartoon-y if you know what i mean. for instance, take the one with the baby at the carnival. how can he float with the baloons!? i know phantom's gonna rage again for this....

| Monty Python is the bomb diggety. Hey, Mr. Show was excellent, so we got some good comedy, just not a lot. Sitcoms over here more or less suck. Haven't seen a lot of British comedy, except for So Graham Norton, I like Graham Norton. |

I'm so glad that someone else mentioned So Graham Norton! My husband, my mother and i are in love with that show. All because of a talking doggy phone and the weird crap he makes people do for prizes at the end. The Silly contests..... All time favorite british comedy:
1. red dwarf! (who could forget Lister and the cat?)
2. fawlty towers
3. So Graham Norton
4. Father Ted
5. Blackadder
6. Absolutley Fabulous
7. Coupling (The Melty man cometh LMAO!!!)
8. Monty Python's Flying Circus
9. Are you Being Served?
10. The Young Ones
11. French and Saunders
12. Mr. Bean

You know, I used to watch Blake's Seven. Despite its obvious poverty row look and cheap effects,it is infinitely more engaging and engrossing than....Buck Rogers

, or Star Trek the Next Generation (wooden puppets, ALL of them).

Hi!
I think that American shows have tooo much of moral.......
If you want to be entertained you'r not looking for someone to tell you what's right or wrong!!
I am SO tired of the "AAAAAAAAAAAAA"- moments in the american shows!
THIS IS NOT HOW REALITY IS........! ( Like "Full House..BARF! )
I love Fawlty Towers! And Black Adder!
English shows are my cup of tea!!!
Have a nice weekend everyone!

According to my WHO magazine
Christopher Eccleston is the new Doctor
Please tell me it is not rumer. The BBC wouldn't toy with the audience like that. Would they?

american shows worry far too much about not offending people and painting a pretty picture.
heh, north america is probably the most rigid, stick up it's ass continent when it comes to television.

Whilst I agree that we do make some great comedys (check out Black Books and Little Britain if you get the chance), the Americans have made some fab shows over the last 10 years or so.
Seinfeld, Fraiser and the Larry Sanders Show to name but a few.
We in the UK have made some bloody awful ones too!!
Overall, I think that both sides of the pond produce some great comedys and some absolute stinkers.

There's one good comedy in USA: Curb Your Enthusiasm (on HBO), it's terribly politically uncorrect and it's extremely smart. I rate it on the same level as Fawlty Towers.

In America television takes itself pretty seriously (with some exceptions), whereas most people in the UK don't take anything seroiusly.

Christopher Eccleston is going to make an amazing Dr Who! Did anyone see him play Christ in "The Second Coming"?
I agree that British comedy is generally better than U.S. comedy, and I think it's because we do self-depreciation better. That, and Americans are too jolly. You tell someone to 'have a nice day' here and you get your lights punched out.
Spaced and Black Books are so amazing

, and I cant wait to watch Shaun Of The Dead (just the trailer made me laugh for ages

)
Having said that, American drama is great, and when you guys get it right, you really do!
