I know what y'all will say,
"Pale_Horse, you're an American, you like beer, you smoke, you love American football, you love baseball, you love guns, etc.... Why in the h*ll would a person like you enjoy British TV?"
IMO, British TV has the funniest d*mn shows on the planet. Shows like Black Adder, Father Ted, League of Gentlemen, AYBS, The Young Ones, etc... are immeasurably more witty than mainstream American shows. Why is that? I don't know. Perhaps it is just me that thinks this. I feel that American shows are being "dumbed down" while their British counterparts are not. What are your opinions on the subject?

I used to watch the Young Ones all the time, too.
Don't forget Faulty Towers! (or sometimes known as Farty Towels on the sign out the front ... hehe)
I just think the British are better at comedy - old fashioned, good natured comedy, that is!

Yes I know I'm biased but I have to agree with u lol My only answer would be that in Britain we do not seem to be as afraid to make comedy shows that would be seen as very un-politically correct as elsewhere, take Allo Allo for instance, I cannot imagine any other country making a comedy series based in Nazi occcupied France and rippping the a**e out of the gestapo!!!!!!!!
My all time favourite tho has got to be Only Fools and Horses, don't know if u get that in US but ure missing out if u don't.
But hey, u churn out some good ones as well u know esp the Simpsons lol

Well we Brits do make great comedy but we still haven't got any drama as 'quality' as the Sopranos or Six Feet Under and while US comedy might not be as off the wall as some of ours there's still some really good stuff.
Best British drama we've had for years was Clocking Off and that's ended!

With the exception of Frazier, I havn't seen a single US sitcom that's actually funny (in fairness though, Frazier is genius)...
Father Ted, on the other hand, is the funniest thing I have ever seen

We had a show similar to that... it was called Hogan's Heroes. At the rate that we are stealing show ideas from the U.K. I'd say American television will soon look quite a bit like British television.

Survivor and Trading Spaces are current high-rated shows that originated in the U.K. There are several comedies that were on that were based on U.K. shows, but I can't think of them at the moment.

One of my fav shows is being remade in America as we speak..The Office....unfortunatly the guy who plays David Brent (Ricky Gervais) is not appearing in it but he is out there now advising the program makers.
Another British classic is ...Absolutley Fabulous.
My fav American Comedy at the mo is..... Malcolm in the middle...the reason I think that it's so popular over here is that it goes against most American Family comedies in the way it has no moral message during each episode. We British hate that!

Brilliant comedy shows, that I like (in no particular order) are:
Blackadder 1 - 4
Red Dwarf
Mr Bean
Only Fools and Horses
Absolutely Fabulous
Men Behaving Badly
Monty Python's Flying Circus
My Family
The American ones I like are:
Friends
Malcolm in the Middle
In the US there were versions of Red Dwarf and Men Behaving Badly, but they did not do as well as the British versions, the reason I think for this is that the British ones are sometimes better scripted, and are also are verbal in gags, were as many US ones are visual.

Monty Python is the bomb diggety. Hey, Mr. Show was excellent, so we got some good comedy, just not a lot. Sitcoms over here more or less suck. Haven't seen a lot of British comedy, except for So Graham Norton, I like Graham Norton.

Soooo.... It's not normal to construct a replica of the TARDIS interior in your bathroom? Not that I have done that or anything.....

Doctor Who Rocks
I have just been on holiday to Mallorca so I'm not 100% up to date on the latest news, although I do remember my fella reading me a snippit from the paper saying that Doctor Who is going to be made more up to date, and he might be gay (as the new writer is the same guy that wrote Queer as Folk, I can't remember his name).
Actors in the running so far are Alan Davies, Richard E Grant and Stephen Fry.
I'm sure that the article also said that Doctor Who could also be a woman. I'm not too sure I'd like that, Doctor Who has always been a man (yes I know there are female time lords i.e. Rommana, but she was a side kick)
I wonder if they will bring back K9?
P.s. UK Gold is showing repeats of Doctor Who everyday..

So THAT'S who sarkypi is refering to!
Actually, there's no firm news on anything yet, although I can't see them making The Doctor gay, or a woman, because his sexuality is the one constant throughout his generations.
Personally, I hope we see a return of some of the classic monsters.

Well, I would hate for it to start with a new generation. Doctor number 8 only got that one god awful movie. He deserves to have a few stories. I mean just to start off with another generation is annoying

Actually how would one go about making the Doctor being gay?!
He's flambouyant enough. Can't be done.
I would like him to be more of a player tho, the Spielberg movie gave him a girlfriend
u think after all these years he would have an illegitimate child somewhere. Perhaps a sidekick son? Like "Angel"
I'm gonna have to have someone tape these babies when they come out. I don't think I'll be able stand knowing they're out there while I have to wait for public t.v. to broadcast them

I prefer the old British sitcoms to the ones that are on now, although My Family is great, Only Fools and Horses, Dads Army, Allo Allo, Porridge, Butterflies, Goodnight Sweetheart, Open All Hours, Blackadder, The Brittas Empire, Absolutely Fabulous, The Young Ones, Bottom, The Detectives, Keeping Up Appearances, The Vicar of Dibley are just a selection of my favourite sitcoms.
I think that the US have some great drama programmes that are better than British ones such as The West wing, The Sopranos, Law and Order and Boomtown, which are all excellent
