Segway LLC has issued a voluntary recall of its Human Transporter product after revealing that riders might fall from the device as the batteries are drained of power, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The recall affects about 6000 two-wheeled units sold between March 2002 and September 2003. The Manchester, New Hampshire, company has received three reports of incidents related to this problem, including one person who endured a head injury requiring stitches after falling off an HT, the CPSC said.

Has anyone here ever tried one of these things ? I hear they currently cost several thousand dollars a piece, I can't say I've ever seen anyone using one.

Because they're useless! Seriously, though, this is funny, considering all the hype they got.

lol .. but I think they are fun .. I mean .. they don't pollute the air .. and they are safe .. and easy to use .. Maybe cause they are new .. and might be expensive for some people .. since the one can cost about $79.99 .. thats why you don't see them around that much .. but as for me .. I would like to own onemy self .. not for moving from one place to another .. but for having fun .. tongue.gif

When I was younger - much younger - I'd use my grandfather's garden roller in a similar way. It was a bit slow at first, but when it picked up speed... You had to move your feet quickly and make absolutely certain it didn't run over them. screama.gif

Now segway's coming out with a new version of it. It's a unicycle styled one with built in gyroscopes. It's just as expensive but faster then the old segway. They had a small piece on it in October 2003's Popular Science magazine on page 13, along with a photo of the prototype.

Yeah, I saw a couple about 2 months ago, going down the street with them. Side by Side. They took up the whole friggin block. screama.gif I think they're ugly, and with all the bikers and rollerbladers on my sidewalk. I gotta walk in the street!!!:screama.gif s07 screama.gif... It's so friggin unfair. Anyway, they go real slow too, and if you had to go shopping you would probably have to add a basket, cause you wouldn't have any free hands.
