Hello! I'm an as-of-yet unpublished writer but have done TONS of research on markets/agents and all that stuff.

For short stories & poems, you don't need an agent. You need to find a magazine or ezine that you think your story would fit in and then submit your story (or just a query letter) following the submission guidelines for that magazine or ezine exactly. Make sure you only submit your absolute best work, and be professional. You don't have to submit to only UK publications just because you live there either.

Here are two sites that have lots of market listings:

http://www.jbwb.co.uk/markets.html

http://www.fictionfactor.com/markets.html

Of course, you can just do a search for "horror short story markets" or "romance short story markets" or whatever genre your short story is in.

Any more questions, feel free to ask and I'll try to help. I'm searching for an agent for my first novel & have five short stories submitted to various mags & ezines right now.

Hey, solidsnake, don't give away your ideas! Write it down the best you can now. You may very well get better at story-telling/writing as time goes on.

ill write your story contact my email at echoseddy@aol.com or write a personal message here at the UM. im a writer and artist and have work and published art in teenbeat as well as the nation librarys of poets anaolgys "whistpering silence and immortal verses" at that web there is some info on getting volumes of work published if the poster here still needs resources . check your local ROTERY in your area and Writers Digest has a abuncee of classified ads and publishers ads most of the magazine has contact info on the how to and what not. Purchas a copy check it out and write to every publisher .youll get mail lots of it and then decide from there

there are also a the writers market yearly editions with nothing but publishers in it and i find that is the best resource i ever used . the internet is jolly and all but there is something more valid when it all on paper and make sure the company or publisher knows or can develope a contract of agreement . if there is not contract of legal rights and provisions involed i would check them out due to material of the writer will not be confiscated.

1= writers digest magazine
2=writers market 2006- text hardcover .
readers digest is another good resouce due to they look for stories to publish in there magazine.

join a book club at your local coffee house .

so this info should be helpful to the poster who asked for how
and for poster #2 ill write your story , contact me is your serious let me see what you got email above

well, I'm actually getting published right now. I wrote a zombie short story titled "The Anna Strain" and I am currently getting it published by the firm "Permuted Press". Permuted Press is a small publishing firm responsible for most of the zombie novels out there.

I agree that you should try and find a mag or e-zine to publish your story.

BUT!!!!

I say that you should try and publish it yourself!! That's right, that is what I am doing with my new novel. Release your story as an e-book, build a site for it, and market it by building word of mouth.

here's all the resources you'll need:
www.openoffice.org -- Free MS Office-like suite with ability to export to PDF
www.bravenet.com -- Has a free website hosting option with which you can creat some REALLY nice pages.
www.google.com -- If your smart, you'll use the engine to find forums and such where you could post your story!!!

I hope I helped, and I wish you the best of luck, from one author to another!!!
