Full Version: Prayer
I have prayed in my life, for a new bike, world peace, granny gets well and other selfless things. They were not answered. Did you get an answer?
I know that certain threads are closed for what ever reason. I just wonder how, if someone doesn't respect the system enough to commit a "Search" before repeating the thread theme, how that same Moderator force doesn't at least combine the thread(s) or shut them down, according to the board policy they cite for closing any other thread!? (saying for instance; of course you are welcome to discuss, but your thoughts are more appropriate for a Blog, etc...) 
Does prayer work? If it did, people would use a Search engine before posting the same topic again and again, unabated!

Remember, prayer isn't only about asking God for things. Is God a magic genie, who's stuck inside a lamp only until you need him to grant you your hearts desire?
In my experience, prayer does work.

You have to give prayer a chance and you have to put your complete heart and soul into a prayer...if you dont so much as believe in it...then dont bother praying...you have to believe in it and trust in God to hear you and answer you
You cant just ramble off a prayer like it is some kind of wish!!!!!! dont be silly ....if you do that...don't hold your breath in getting any kind of answers
I have a couple of prime examples of my own....ahem...
When I lost my 1st child..I was heart broken and angry at myself....I broke down and couldn't face anyone.....I prayed night and day...I poured my heart out, and talked to God as if he was standing in front of me....I asked him to please give me one more chance and grant me a child, one that healthy...and I gave God my reasons as to WHY it was so important for me to be a mother....with in a couple of weeks I was pregnant again...I was in shock and too afraid to take the test, incase like others it turned out - negative!!! so I waited another week, it was killing me to find out..but I did it and there it was..Positive...and I gave birth to a gorgeous healthy lil girl last Sept 2005 called Rebecca........this folks is all down to faith in prayer
Another story.....There is a man that lives 3 miles from me called Jake..he and his family have always had it rough, their home broken into, and he lost his job...he still went along to my moms christian meetings, and they ALL prayed. The following few weeks had passed...he was forever praying for God just to help him find some way out of his mess, so he could help his young family..............He never gambled or drank for that matter.......but one day as he was in getting a newspaper he stood beside a lotto machine and something told him to get a lucky dip...so out of the blue he did...then kicked himself becasue he never believed in gambling, especially when he had little to gamble with.......Jake won over £300,000
and he was sooo over the moon...he was able to pay off the mortgage of his home and keep the roof over his families heads..and he was able to provide new things for his kids and he went out and bought new clothes and soon landed himself another job...but for the 1st time Jake was able to provide again and take his family on a well deservd holiday......he thanks the lord...he never prayed for money..he only prayed for the help and God must have known if Jake had this money he would make good use of it..................just another prime example that prayer does work

Prayer works...yet refrain yourself from praying for materialistic things...You dont REALLY need a bike, a new car or to win the lotto...When i pray to God i dont demand i kindly ask...I had a big important job interview a few weeks back where 350 people applied...a handful were to be selected...I told God to help me excel in the interview and for me to do well...I didnt say GIVE ME THE JOB...I told God to assist me in making this happen for me...and before i knew it i got a call saying i got the job.
Remember- Praying from you heart and not saying a word is better than praying with words that dont come from the heart...

Yup I think its best to at least agree to meet God half way..you do your bit and he does the rest
.Prayers are not like making wishes and they shouldnt be rambled off and hope for quick fixes..they need more thought...well IMO they do
I give credit where credit is due on this one. A few years ago i was in hospital. In the bed next to me was a man who instantly recognised the 2 men who came into the ward. "Here come the godbotherers", he shouted.
At the same time my wife came into the room and greeted the two men. After a few minutes with my wife the two men approached. My wife asked me if it would be alright for them to pray for me. As they wanted to help in some way i replied it would be ok. This stranger held my hand closed his eyes and began to pray whilst the other looked at me a smiled.. I gave myself up to this stranger and felt calm, at peace, thinking this man has given his time to visit the hospital in the forlorn hope of his god helping people. I felt the warmth that comes from unconditional, not love, but altruistic help one receives selflessly. It was a great feeling. My wife came to me and said thanks for allowing her old school friend to do what he did. I said i was grateful that someone cared. Whether the stranger was motivated by his idea of god or just used the idea of god in his work i didn't ask. Were his prayers answered? I spent the same amount of time in hospital as i usually did at that time so no it didn't work at the asking favour level, but it worked on a personal level. In fact i was rather glad it didn't work on the asking favour level as i would have had another hammer to beat religionists with.
The other part about the bike. Well i asked god for it so i could visit granny who was a long-
term hospital patient as my parents couldn't afford the frequent travelling costs.
