Something very odd happened in the early mourning hours of February 25, 1942. Unidentified flying objects were seen flying over the area of Los Angeles, California. The following are the events that occured that morning..

-02:25pm: Alarm sirens installed in the event of a Japanese air raid are started, as flying objects are seen and announced in the sky off the city. A blackout is declared and the anxious and even terrified inhabitants follow the instructions by turning all the lights off.

-03:16pm: Anti-aircraft guns open fire on the unidentified flying objects coming from the ocean, and projector beams are searching the sky. There seems that at least 2 different types of machines are flying over LA. Witnesses observe small objects flying at high altitude, of red or silver plated color, moving in formation at high speed, and untouched by the AAA salvos. Their pace is an estimated 29000 km/h. There is also a larger object which remains stationary for some time, then, when lightened by the projectors above Culver City, starts to move at a constant speed of 100 km/h in the direction of the Santa Monica cost, and later southwards in direction of Long Beach, where it goes out of sight. This large object has been touched by many AAA projectiles, according to the reports. The anti aircraft defence continues to shoot at UFOS.

-04:14: There is a cease-fire, 1430 6 kilogram shells have been used. No bomb has been dropped by the unknown flying objects, and none of them could be shot down.

If it wasn't a flying saucer, what was it?

I've always wondered what the heck that was too.. but of course, it's swept under the rug and people moved on as in so many of these cases. We will probably never know. However, I am sure SOME people "truly" know but took it to their deathbeds.

They covered a wee bit of this incident on the video here:

It's amazing that something like that can happen over Los Angeles back in 1942 and most people today remain unaware of that event.

Ahh yes, one of my favorites!

PULL!!!
obviously it's one of those clay disks that people use for target practice, it was just a giant one built for the military.

This looks like a hoax, probably setup by the government to scare its citizens. Such things have been pulled off on old radio shows back in the day.
Bobzilla
This has been my favorite story. My grandma has the LA Times with the story. Pretty cool pics in the paper.

Why would the government want to scare people, expecially during 1942 when WWII was going on?

I remember hearing about this on the history channel. The disk in the picture almost looks like one of the fake Billy Meier UFOs.

The first image gives a clue that the 'craft' was in fact a black triangle - presumably a time-travel test flight of Aurora wink2.gif

yea i think it was a ufo, the pics look kinda fake tho. we'll never no for sure tho cause most of the ppl from that era are dead or didnt live in LA, plus the government will never look into that event, i wonter why?? hmmm

They were shooting them because they thought that they were Japanese crafts. This happened during WWII and they thought that they were secret Japanese crafts that were about to attack. Thats why they shot at them.
binx
i no they thought they were japanese aircraft, but they didnt try and drop a bomb, and just incase they were extratorestrials, i wouldnt wanna try n shoot them because theirs a chance that they have much more powerfull weapons then us, and personaly dont want to find out what being attacked by extratorestrials is like because it gives me the shivers thinking about it.

If those were really alien crafts, those people are lucky that they alien.gif didn't try to fight back. If we would have provoked them some more they could have attacked and wiped out the whole West Side. Humans are a hostile race. We fear what we don't understand. Without knowing it, we almost started an interplanetary war with a species we know nothing about.

I think the pic (which maybe is faked, dunno) would look that way given a kinda long exposure with the object being the only fully reflective thing in the sky. The little white dots around it would probably be...what was that stuff? flak I think. The crap in the air is why the spotlights would be visible (remember, it was LA...)

Sky---Actually, the UFO was first tracked over 120 miles west of Los Angeles on radar.

LA sure, but quite some time ago. Smog is a lot worse almost 70 years later.

Very fascinating story, unfortunately, considering the age of the story, that is alll it can ever be. Unless of course an Alien race lands with corresponding history records grin2.gif

Well, the dots are esplosions of the Anti Aircraft guns and none of them hit he "UFO", the photos arenīt fake, there is many ppl that saw and give interviews. I will find and post it latter.

maybe, but it must've stood still for a bit (2 seconds to a minute, don't know what film etc they used) for that picture to have been taken.
