Let's back up a couple of steps here, ok? One can see where large numbers of people have professed a great many things as being "reality" based on their beliefs and faith. One only has to look at religion to see where this takes place...and that's all well and good. Religions are usually pretty up front about professing their beliefs as being an act of faith that defines their reality. However, as far as there being irrefutable evidence for the divine beyond faith, well, you get the picture.
Historically, people have believed all sorts of things to be real, from witches to mythical creatures. I don't see where UFOs (as ET space ships) are all that different. I'm not all that surprized that The Disclosure Project can find a number of people who are convinced that ET visitation is reality. However, saying that they've seen this or that, but not being able to produce any solid evidence in their support, makes this type of testimony anecdotal, not definitive proof of anything. Remember it wasn't all that long ago that people testified in courts of law that they had seen witches cavorting with The Devil.
People sincerely believe all sorts of rather odd things (just look at the TV shows
Myth Busters and Penn and Teller's
BullSh*t for illustrations). Why do people believe stuff without really good evidence? I guess it's just part of being human, but one can choose to become more critical in their thinking. I'm convinced that critical thinking is a learned behavior, something one can train themselves to do. So, take a step back, look at this whole issue from a more discerning angle...see what you come up with then.
Very well said Lilly but as much as I hate to bring this up, we have to look at religion now. I believe in GOD and that there is only one. But, what evidence do we really have of him? I haven't seen him yet, have you? I have no doubt that I will see him eventually. If you've read my other post "The Incomplete Bible" you would have seen that that the original bible was written in Latin/Hebrew. Now we all know the Bible says not to take anything away from it or add to it, but if your traslating it from Latin/Hebrew to English how are you possibly not going to take anything away from it, or somehow add to it? Only a few select individuals have access to the original, wherever it may be. So we base a whole religion on something that may even be incomplete or inaccurate? All I'm saying is, if you really think hard about it, where's the proof?? Why is it so easy for us to believe in something that we've never seen in our entire lives, versus something people see on a daily bases?
