I may be an idiot with a messed up head.
I used to see out of the corner if my eye, a man running across my vision who wore all white and a white hat, I never saw his face. It was just moments when glancing at a window while talking to a friend where I saw him or her. I may believe in this stuff a little too much and perhaps my brain was creating those images, who knows.

Could you be more specific on what he looked like? I realize it was "corner of the eye" and so necessarily not the most reliable but when you say "hat" - you mean like baseball cap, top hat, fez, what? I'm not familiar with a White Man off the top of my head (which would be under my hat, were I to wear one, which I don't).

I pictured the hat as sort of cowboyish but bigger, can't remember haven't seen him in a long time. He had a white tuxedo like suit.

In all fairness, I had a similar experience-while doing laundry in the truly Edgar Allen Poe lookin' basement of my apartment house in Baltimore, I saw a figure all in black go by the door of the laundry room.
We had intruder problems there, so I went to look-nobody there.
The stairs were a bit noisy, so I knew nobody was walking up.
Fatigue hallucinations often manifest at the corner of the eye, and if you're very tired, they can be elaborate, if brief.
But I still think it was Nyerlathotep.
He's a slippery ol' cuss, and inclined to show up where you least expect him, and Shub-Nigurath probably lived down there, too.
Nasty place!

Shadow people are traditionally dark, aren't they? You know, like....shadows?
MichaelS
Apr 23 2006, 10:54 PM
Normally, I'd have to assume so... or course I have heard of apparitions being of differant colours- The Green Lady of Myrtles Plantation for instance, who is supposed to be a black servant with a green dress and turban, for instance.

Yes, I agree, but the only difference in what people are describing is the colour. The behavior of the whiteman sounds similar to that of the shadow peoples.

Yes, but you're talking about a spirit there. Not what's typically considered to be a shadow thingy.

I'd like more detail as to how this thing acts, and again, how many times the poster has seen it. Whatever it is, it's not a shadow person.
MichaelS
Apr 23 2006, 11:15 PM
I haven't come across any evidence that indicates that Shadow People aren't spirits like every other type of apparition. *shrug*
I too would like to hear more about the apparition the original poster told us about. Frequency of visitations, details about appearance, under what kind of circumstances he sees the apparition, etc.

I'm guessing high stress or very sleepy conditions.

Well, those conditions would definately be a factor against the authenticity of their claim.

I'm just going with my gut on this one.
MichaelS
Apr 23 2006, 11:31 PM
And your gut is saying, this is being caused by stress most likely?
Nadia Blue
Apr 23 2006, 11:35 PM
I think it's a combination of stress, possibly tiredness, and a good imagination. I see things out of the corner of my eye all the time when I'm stressed and/or tired. It's not hard to understand that your imagination can add to the incident and play tricks on you. It sounds to me like he's only seen this maybe 3 times?
MichaelS
Apr 23 2006, 11:37 PM
I'd have to agree with your assessment.
It'd be nice to have more information from the original poster though.

A long time ago, I had a job as a watchman for a small college-midnight shift.
There was a spot between two buildings where I could look at the roof of one of them, where there was a rotating ventilator.
I would always see a figure there, a cross between the Michelin Man and Edward Gorey's black doll, sort of capering about.
Knowing it wasn't real, I even brought a pair of binoculars one night.
No figure.
Put down the binoculars, it's back.
Ghost?
No, an optical illusion-good one too, I kept that one for myself, it made a nice break in the night's rounds.
Fatigue hallucinations are very well documented and recognized.
So are paranoia and schophrenia-shadow people might get you hatched up, if you told your doctor!

It wasn't so much that I was afraid of the bastard, it was more of that he was just annoying. Overactive imagination? Possibly. What pissed me off was that everyone thought I was crazy and ignored me. Yeah he did act like a shadow person. I just think back to it... I seriously doubt it was an active imagination because I saw the bastard clear as a sunny day. It's either that or I'm insane.

There are 3 possibilities.
1. It's your imagination
2.You're crazy
3. It was a ghost
I like the second one best.

That last message was plain mean.
What you saw was probably a fatigue/stress hallucination, which is a psyiological reaction.
They can get pretty wild, and are akin to dreams.
As we get older, we begin to see these-children don't get them.
The giveaway is the corner of the eye.
If this keeps happening, and if you start hearing voices, or interacting with the hallucinations, get help right away, while you still can.
Otherwise, try to get more rest.
