http://www.metacafe.com/watch/108095/mermaid/Definately a stingray lying on its back. You can even see on the tail that the fins are upside-down; they should be sprouting from the dorsal, not ventral, side.

I agree Bigfoot

Does it really matter if it's a shovel or a stingray? To think that mermaids exist is silly

Everything with two slits over a groove is considered a face. Haven't we learned better than that?

Its definetly a skate or ray...Skates have been known to have "human-like" faces on them. I have seen people catch these..

Amazing that the site promotes it as a Mermaid. Must be good for the hit count.
Damn ugly, think I'd prefer to snuggle with a dugong.

Sorry it's just a Shovelnosed Ray, AKA Devil fish...
http://www.sealifegifts.net/DEVIL-FISH-826.htmlThese types of pics have been posted all over the net as anything from Aliens to Mermaids ( first I've heard on the Mermaids though )...
Nothing more than a Ray folks....

It's a skate or a ray, all right, and let the inquiring among us examine the family known as chimeras, a close relative to the shark and ray species.
Very odd, but well known and completely natural.
