Magician to spend week under water

Having starved himself and been frozen in ice, US magician David Blaine now plans to spend seven days submerged in a water-filled container in New York.

The latest stunt by the renowned illusionist will seem him enter a 2.5 metre high acrylic sphere on May 1 and remain submerged for a week.

A mask and air line will keep him alive, while food will be provided in the form of liquid nutrition through a tube.

At the end of the seven days, Blaine, 33, will remove his air supply and attempt to hold his breath longer than the current world record of eight minutes and 58 seconds, before finally climbing out of the human aquarium.

During the stunt, fans will be able "to visit, touch the sphere and offer words of support".

Blaine will be hoping for a better public reaction than he received for his last major 'performance' - a 44-day fast during which he was suspended above London's River Thames in a glass box.

Detractors came up with increasingly inventive ways to taunt or unsettle Blaine such as using a remote control model helicopter to dangle a cheeseburger in front of the starving magician.

Others drove golf balls off Tower Bridge, threw eggs, used a home-made catapult to shoot paint bombs at the box, banged drums to keep him awake at night or merely shouted abuse.

The human aquarium stunt will take place at the Lincoln Centre for the Performing Arts on Manhattan's upper west side.

Organisers say Blaine will have a two-way audio link, allowing media to interview him during the challenge.

Previous stunts have included being encased in ice for nearly 62 hours and spending 35 hours on a 30-metre high pillar that was only 56 centimetres wide.

And just how is he to handle the other, er, bodily needs? That water could become mighty unpleasant after just one day!

What he does aren't tricks. They are just attention getting stunts.

Between David Blaine and Chris Angel I am not sure if they are just playing a game of one-up-manship with each other or are they preforming artists in the extreme sense of the word.

I'd find ways to toture him too,

Me too, well anyways I just want know, when he fasted did he not eat at ALL during the 44 days, because the would be pretty much impossible, I mean his body would shut after like 12 or 13 days, I mean the longest somebody has lived without food is 17 days, so 44 days without food, I pretty much impossible

he drank water just not food.
Most people can survive for weeks (probably 50-80 days)
without food but that survival is based on fitness and condition.
If you are weak to begin with you cannot survive that long,
even with a plentiful source of water.

Well that makes sense, and by weeks (50-88 days) do you mean without food or water or without food, because as stated the longest somebody has survived without food or water was 17 days, i'll repost if I can find the wiki article on it

Wicekd...I think Blaine gets a lot of unfair crap given to him He's a performer, an entertainer, and that's just what he does.

I prefer Chriss Angel personally, but it's just because he's prettier.

I think maybe he'll be a bit safer because of where he's doing the stunt. That last idea he had suspended out at Tower Bridge was not very well thought out.
