During the middle ages, one of the most tenacious legend circulating through Europe was the wandering jew.

According to the legend, after Pilate had delivered him to jew for curcifixion,Jesus was being dragged out of the judgement hall when he paused for moment to rest.Seeing this,Cartaphilus cruelly struck him on the back with his hand and jeered,"Go quicker,Jesus,go quicker;why do you loiter?"In reply,Jesus looked back at the porter and said,"I am going, and you will wait till I return.".......

Since that day, Cartaphilus has roamed the world unceasingly, unable to die until the Last Judgement... blink.gif

There is also many encounter to this legend shows that legend of The Wandering Jew really happen.....such as...During a winter of 1574, he was spied in Hamburg church by a student called Paul von Eitzen, later to become Bishop of Schleswig.A tall man with long hair, despite the freezing weather the Jew was barefoot and dressed only in threadbare clothing.a description frequently given by eyewitnesses. Listening solemnly to the sermon, he sighed and beat his breast whenever the name of Jesus was mentioned..,,,, huh.gif

The other legend is from europe dated about 1547.It states the Wandering Jew, now named Ahasverus, who was originally a shoe-maker. In this version, the Jew
had lived in Jerusalem at the time of the crucifixion of Christ, whom he had regarded as a deceiver of the people and a heretic . . . [On the road to Calvary, Christ passed by Ahasverus' house and], bowed under the weight of the heavy cross, He tried to rest a little, and stood still a moment; but the shoe-maker, in zeal and rage, and for the sake of obtaining credit among the other Jews, drove the Lord Christ forward and told him to hasten on His way. Jesus . . . looked at him and said, 'I shall stand and rest, but thou shalt go till the last day.

Why on earth does some bearded, barefoot guy HAVE to be this 'wandering Jew'...he could be anybody? Just because a person assumes something, leaping to conclusion upon seeing him, doesn't mean he's correct.

Why would he be in a church anyway? He's a Jew, not a christian...you'd honestly think after 1547 years, he'd have better things to do that listen to church sermons and vent off his anger, which he'd probably have gotten out of his system hundreds of years before tongue.gif

Such an 'eye witness' account is as credible as me saying sightings of a man with excess bodyhair is proof of the existance of bigfoot.

I have to agree with Seraphina, why do these accounts 'prove' or even justifiy the existence of 'The Wandering Jew?' I happen to believe in Him, or something of the lesson behind it. A lot of the Bible are parables so it could just be a lesson. But then again, if it was the day that Christ died, I doubt he'd be up to telling stories. With these kind of stories it is better to look at the effects of the witnesses, if they had a 'strange feeling' or something like that, than the actual accoutns and 'proof.' For Bibilical and other Semi-Religious, or Religious stories, try to look at the faith behind the story, rahter than the facts.
