An Illinois man is in custody after allegedly cutting an ear off a dog because he thought it looked prettier that way.

Aurora police received a report and say when they arrived to the scene, found 18-year-old Gregory A. Balano with scissors in his hand standing over the bleeding dog.

Balano then climbed to the roof of the house but was finally apprehended, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Balano said he heated the scissors to blunt the pain. He cut off the left ear as the 1-year-old pit bull was chained to a tree.

It was taken to an animal hospital.

That is terrible.........People who are cruel to animals are no friend of mine...
What sh**es me about animal cruelty is that people get a fine, and rare jail if at all sentences......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that is illegal? I cut the ears off of my dog when it was about 1 years old. The dog didn't even cry when i did it and now my dobee looks great!

Yes it's illegal. It's called 'ABUSE'. And you can be fined and possibly go to jail for it. Although, if I had my way, the punishment for ANY kind of animal abuse would be much, much stiffer.

Me too. There is no reason to do that! I think that anyone who does that to their animal should have to undergo plastic surgery w/o anesthetic.

The officer should have taken the heated scissors and stabbed that guy's eyes out of his head so nothing would look pretty to him again. Freaking people need to be hurt not thrown in jail, to learn their lesson but physically actually feel what the hell they are doing is freaking wrong.

Animals have just as many sensor nerve cells as humans in their skin. How would you like your ears cut off just so you look better?

Amen! I hate that 'oh they don't feel like we do' mentality. I don't want to lobby for voting gorillas, but I do think animals feel and they shouldn't be mistreated.

i didnt know heat blunted pain... but yea that guys ears should be cut off to show how his dog feels. when my grandparents rotweiller was born they took its tail off so it wouldnt kill someone when it wagged its tail

I have a 95 pound labrador and his tail causes much destruction. There is no way I'd ever consider removing it though. It's just part of what you deal with when you have a big dog.
