I went to work to day with my brother, we are carpenters and i help out sometimes. We were finishing up a house, just about to put the second coat of lacker on it but first i had to fill all the wholes with putty. I got down on all fours and strated, when at the conrner of the wall on the floor was this very strange alien looking incect covered in lacker * dead *
It looks like something out of the movie starship troopers and scared the sh** out of me when i saw it. It was about 1/2 inches or so long and had a brownish yellow color to it. I decided to tap it with my foot and its shell crumbled, probably because of the lacker, i am no going back to that job because my brother has finished on it and he vacumed the floor so its gone, but i was wondering if anyone has seen such a thing before, it wasent a roch btw. Something i have never seen before and i am interested in seeing if its a new species or something. Feel free to ask any questions.
Btw im in adeliade in australia.
Ummmm why didnt my pic come up ????

How about a Cylindrical Hardwood Borer I don't know if you have them in australia or not but it sounds like what you were discribing.
The picture shows it having long legs and a yellow bown shell. Says it's sometimes found in houses borered into the wood but mostly in forests and it's about the size you mentioned.

As i said, i saw it when i was applying putty, then my brother sanded the room, thus destroying it and then vacumiming it, sorry but it cannot be taken a picture of....
it was bettel like, not worm like at all, i think it was a shell, because when i touched it it crumbeled easily.

The Best describtion is of the bugs off Starship troopers, except for the head, that was more like that off the squids that change color, umm i forget their names the small ones.

Trying to think of any insects that would have mouthparts that would look vaguely like cuttlefish.....
was it like this?

this is a crusader bug- basically like a big aphid, order Hemiptera.
If you could see the wings then I'd say
maybe either a cicada or some sort of Assassin Bug like
Ectomocoris decoratus

Was it a Cicada, maybe? You said that when you touched it, the shell crumbled so it reminded me of the Cicada... They only come around in huge droves every few years... I remember one year when I found about 200 shells on the tree in my backyard....
ANYWAYS...

Cicada emerging from it's exoskeleton...

That's what I was thinking but do they have those in Australia?
P. S. Like the Hatchetman. My son and brother are Juggalos.

Oh yeah, absolutely! They've got quite a few species if I remember. Think I suggested a cicada too... bloody noisy little beggars!
