Found this in the Fortean Times 'It happen to me' archive. It's a very odd story.......
'When I was a very young kid, probably between the ages of around 4-7 (1979 - 1982ish) I was regularly aware of black blobs or shadows hanging around me outdoors. I remember quite a few fairly terrifying indoor experiences of objects moving around in my bedroom but it was only ever when playing out that I would see the black shapes.
I would never mention them to my family or friends at the time because I was more intrigued than frightened, they showed no signs of malevolence and if anything they seemed rather skittish. They would never appear any closer to me than a minimum of about 5 or 6 metres and if I looked at them directly they would fade - then if I turned my head slightly they would become more visible in my peripheral vision.
Two events concerning these shapes have particularly stuck in my mind. The first is when I was playing alone in a small coppice where my friends and I had built a den, the black shapes were present that day and as I sat in a tree I felt myself begin to grow taller, either that or everything else was shrinking and I had an almost weightless sensation. In this state the shapes were not just dotted around my surroundings but 'grew' with me. I felt extremely confident and protected, as if this were perfectly natural!
The second possibly significant event was when I was playing in the street with friends and my younger brother. My brother was only very small then, at a guess he was only 3 or so. Two men in a car stopped to talk to us and my brother was quite happy to chat by the open car door but at that moment I was some metres away. The shapes seemed to gather in numbers and their movement was a lot more definite than usual, I felt alarmed and felt the need to protect my brother from these strange men. The second I jumped up calling for my Dad the car span off and the blobs eased away.
This all occured on a new housing estate in Dunstable.
As far as I am aware I am not mental.'
hmmmmmmmm........so what do you think? Is he mental? Was it some kind of instinct warning him of possible dangers? Guardian angels?

I'd say guardian angels, Hammy (or spirit guides). I've actually seen mine, when I was a kid. It was a tall white shape reflected in a window, following behind me. Other people I know have seen theirs.
I've heard loads of stories of people suddenly hearing a voice telling them to get out of a plane, that's about to take off and crash, (even one involving actress Lindsay Wagner) or to get out of a building, that minutes later, collapses. Now that could be precognition, but that doesn't explain the sightings of spirit guides.

Ok Cuffy *puts sceptic head on*, I buy the instinct thing.......but spirit guides?
Often I've had a little 'twinkling' about things.......say a person, a journey etc etc and I've been proved right. I believe we are all capable of this - it's just another sense! Nowt supernatural - all natural! As cavemen (a women) we must have posessed a basic 'homing' instinct........we all think about someone, then they call on the phone that very minute........
Nope, you'll have to persuade me

It's going to be tough to persuade you, Hammy. I see your point about us all having a deep-rooted instinct. Maybe that's what it is? The spirt guides may just be spirits or recordings that people just see around them, roughly at the time their instincts kick in. Maybe the instincts taking over make people more tuned in to seeing what's there. Maybe the two are unconnected and coincidental? Maybe I'll stop saying maybe.
It's just my personal interpretation, this spirit guide business. I definitely believe in the idea of precognition, though.

The person in the report discribes them as black blobs, seen from the corner of his vision.
Could this be another of the phenomenon known as shadow people, which are black shadows seen from the corners of a persons vision, they are not usually harmful, and are just usually watching.

I'm not sure about this whole `things seen out the corner of the eye' idea. To me, that's your eyes playing tricks, or just the nerves.
Nerves? I'm a scaredy-cat. Trust me, your nerves can make your imagination work overtime.

These black shadows seen out of the corner of the eye, aren't eye floaties?
Also, children with autism have better vision out of the corner of their eyes. Or, I should say u can get their attention better if u put what u want by the side of their face. Are there any cases of autistic kids talking about shadow people. I worked with autistic kids, and one I spent the most time with were between the ages of 3-5 so they could not speak.

That's an interesting point about autism, I work with some autistic people and had never heard about that before although now it's mentioned one of those people does tend to look at you sideways rather than full on.
I think a lot of these stories may come down to just instinct kicking in rather than outside agencies but there are accounts that suggest sometimes something else has stepped in to lend a hand. One in particular which I remember reading of was about a politicians wife who was attacked in her car one night by a would be rapist, as they struggled some kind of entity appeared in the car frightening the rapist off. Another was about a woman who kept hearing a group of voices telling her to go to the Dr's as she had some sort of tumour in her brain, even after initial tests found nothing the voices kept insisting there was something, giving the exact location. Eventually, to her Dr's amazement, further tests led to the tumour being located and operated on. The voices thanked her, said goodbye and never returned.

Hi Nightbreed
Do I believe in Spirit Guides?
Let's just say I'm undecided.
I've visited quite a few 'psychics' in my time and only 2 out of a large number have really impressed me. These two told me that I have a 'guardian spirit'...and they both described this 'spirit' in exactly the same way. When I delved into my family history, I found the individual they told me about...........it certainly made me re-think my beliefs.
But that is very personal to me...........so I am a little warey of other peoples' claims.

A least you weren’t given an Indian chief that's usually a favourite one to give out.Mmmmm paying to see Psychic now thats another story, I don't agree with. Once you have given them your money they are obliged to give you something back in return. You see you can never guarantee anything with Psychic work. Either the Medium will be able to work with you or they wont.
So if the Medium you are seeing doesn't get a Psychic link for you they will Psychometrise you instead. A very clever trick which will leave most people feeling that they have really got something from the Medium.
I have a Spirit Guide who has been with me for the past 5 years.I don't go around talking to her all the time, and believe you me if I suddenly started to hear voices talking to me whilst I was doing my shopping, or walking down the street, I would be the first to go running to the doctors
I only talk to her when I am doing Psychic work and as far as I am concerned this is how it should be.
