Reading a post in another category I was reminded of an incident when I was a child.
I have discussed this with others and a few have come forward and described similar sightings, so I am curious as to how many here have seen something along these lines.

I was cutting through a park with my friend when I was approx 10 years old, and on taking a shortcut through a broken fence into a wooded area we saw a figure, totally opaque and solid black, literally levitate out of the floor. Now this was man shaped, definately humaniod, but deviod of all features it had a head, arms legs etc, but its head was uniform, no ears facial features, just a headshape, like when someone wears a fencing mask, and the whole being a solid black, not reflecting the light at all, just pitch black.

Obviously we ran in a terrified manner and were so scared we only screamed when we hit the road, and screamed all the way home. When we told our parents they claimed it was probably "a creepy guy in the bushes etc upto no good" and banned us from wandering off too far in future, in other words they laughed it off as anything supernatural.

I still remember this incident clearly to this day 20 years on...as even in my later experiences it sure does take the prize as one of the strangest things i've seen.

Anyone else seen anything like this? Intrigueing

I have seen similar things. In my case they are mostly ghosts. Perhaps this one that you saw was a disturbed or angry spirit.

Anyway Desty, yes I have heard of shadow sightings, and seen the famous nightclub footage (know the one?) years ago, but what fascinates me most in this is that most other sightings are semi transparent.translucent in nature. This is solid in form, and was devoid of light entirely, three dimensional yet black as pitch. Also was its levitating movement, as though it came from the ground on a mini elevator, picture that? Eerie as hell.

I wonder, was it really light around the "Shadow Ghost" you saw? Maybe the light intensified the darkness. The ones ive seen was in near complete darkness so I couldnt tell if they were Solid in nature or mildly transparent

Yes the nightclub thing is featured in the intro to the x files. It was captured on a surveillance cam at 4am in the morning in a closed nightclub some years back. You know the shadowy form walking down the hallway? Has been scrutinised ever since and still no explaination can be found.

To answer your question, it was daytime. But it was also in a shady wooded area, and the concept that it noticed us? I think it must have, as it rose out of the ground more or less 5 feet away and was "facing" us. So yep think thats a dead cert.

It was solid black and you could tell it was facing you?

But ya that sounds creepy as hell I would have gone running out of there, like a mad man, screaming like a little girl.

But ya i think it seemed so black because the light around it intensified the darkness unless it was already very dark (ie not much light breaking through the trees or reflecting off anything nearby)

lol it had perfect egronomical features (pooo my spelling) and was obviously facing forwards, hard to explain, though genderless (didnt stick around to take a close enough look) but yes we did run, bloody fast infact, and were so scared we didnt whimper really until we got our breath back.
I can tell you, sometimes you become so frightened you almost forget how to move, rooted to the spot.
You know what? I always maintained the theory that it was waiting there for someone. Trying not to sound dramatic here lol

After that a lot of things happened. From my experience I think that Shadow spirits are that way because they don't have the energy yet to do what they want to. Spirits feed off of negative energy and other types.I have a pic. from that house which shows the shadow spirit among 2 others in my door way.And today I posted it. Hope you can see it here. I was taking a pic of my friend and the door opened and I saw something weird so I took the pic.There is no wall on the right of the door, just a room so there could not be a shadow and the left side of the door is an entity and in the middle is another.I have seen these before in my house.And there is a lot of orbs in front of the house.

My whole family has witnessed one, we all call him the guy in black ( no relation to johnny cash). He has watched over us for YEEEARRS and none of us no who he is.

one time my aunt was playing hide and seek as a kid, and she seen him walking on the sidewalk, he turned around and his face was pure white, he had no hair. She said he was wearing a robe like outfit. I ask her for more stories but she wont tell me.

Ya i noticed that too it seems like the feed on negative energy, I wonder what it is they need their energy for.

i seen it at my work,it was only me and "it",everyone else was outside smoking,i was in the kitchen and it kept on running

2 things come out like a shadow...

A. ghost of the person who's in limbo (which I know you seen) they are to "in the middle" for you to see the real them All you see is a phantom of once they were.... good you ran caz most ppl that end up that was are ppl who where mad in their life so end up that way they sometimes hurt ppl.

OR

Someone who died any lil is know of them/their just a imprint of a person...who walks the world of the living but lives in the world of the dead...and that is what limbo is or aka "purgatory" your waiting for god to juge you but your in the waiting line....

B. A Power Vamp. (no I am not joking) They around dark place and lurk at night...

For me once I open my walk in closet I seen a very tall person crowching and it ran fastly away from me I went and turn the light on nothing...

When we sleep they come a take some energy away...sometimes to much like you wake up late but feel like you only slept for two hours.You hardly see them they mosy hide in dark places like shadows...but if they see you they run their afraid of us!

Also quite a few ppl woke up as they were being "energy sucked". They wake up a felt like they couldn't move a inch,hard to get air into the lungs,and see this black shadow of a person!!!

I've had it happen to myself it's very painful felt like someone was sitting on my chest I was gasping for air and trying to tell it to stop...but for some reason I could not speak it was as if someone took my voice away!

(^ It hardly known due to most ppl sleep very deeply and don't wake up while the sucking goes on... or call it off as their just dreaming )

Hmmm I don't know about "Power Vamps" and tortured spirits. They could well be an early manifestation of spirit energy. Just because something is dark and "shadowy" doesnt mean its evil or negative surely? Dark is simply the absence of light, but without dark we couldnt see the stars...so the old duality concept comes in..

I have seen some pretty amazing things in my lifetime. From a figure at the end of the bed, to shadowy figures, to objects moving on their own, list goes on...but I have never been harmed on any score. I've sensed negativity but that is were it has ended.

I'm not superstitious, you could call me a spiritual logic But I can't accept the existance of these predominatly evil energy beings prancing around looking for scared teenagers hiding under the covers..

My husband and I have seen one in a previous home. Other family members reported seeing it as well in the same residence. The medicine man that was called in said that it was a chindi (ghost) and took care of it for us with a nice little ceremony. Odd thing was that at the end of the ceremony, although it was a clear day with no clouds, the entire room darkened like a huge cloud had covered up the sun. I remember how weird it was because my head snapped up and I looked out the window to see the blue sky and sunshine. The effect lasted less than a minute and then, it just vanished and the house was brightly lit again. Was pretty weird. We never saw it again.

Anyways, the medicine man said that this shadow thing was a ghost (in our case, an Anasazi one). To a Navajo, that's what a shadow thing is. When a person dies, it's thought that the soul splits in two. One part moves on and the other part, the evil part of the spirit, remains (the chindi). There's alot of rules about death for the Navajo because of this belief but the point is that, from what I understand, chindi are shadowy as a result. A chindi is also believed to cause illness and even death if not dealt with.

I have the spotted the same kind of thing your describing, Henge_Witch, except that it was in animal form.
I dont see it anymore but from my early years up to the age of 12, i would always see a Cat/Dog like shadow walk around corners in our house, and i would most often see it under the dinner table at tea time. It would only be glimpses, but from what i saw of it over the years it was all black - just an outline of an animal, no definition.

Perhaps my eyes were playing tricks on me, or maybe it was the ghost of a dead pet waiting for after-dinner scraps? Well...i like to think that, hahah!

i am not saying that what i am describing is what you have seen but sometimes i see things which resemble what you have described but in my experiences if i ask them to let me see them properly they then show themselves as a spirit with a form, i have always thought these were spirits who have not manifested properly and if you let them know then they can try and get it right. things that appear in the corner of your eye often happens if you are new to seeing spirit , you just have to ask them to reveal who they are and that you acknowledge them

I'm 42 yrs old and I had 3 encounters with this "Shadow People".
I'll tell you guys about the last time:
I stay and my grandparents house, at the time my grandmother had allready
passed away and I dicided to stay with my grandfather to keep him company.
Well it was about 2345hrs(11:45pm) and I went to my room to look for the backyard
gate key were I keep my dog I went there to give her some food when I turned around
I sow this dark figure no face no nothing, just the figure of a human completlly black
and evil, looking at me from the INSIDE of my room true the open windows!!
I wanted to confront what ever was in my room so I went back inside but to do this
I had to go true my garndfather room how was in his bed he said"runing scared ha?"
I got in my room this bad shiver runing up and down my spine I could not see anything
but I could FEEl something in my room.I got my bible and with her in hand I said " In
the name of Jesus Christ I comand you to show yourself!!!" nothing visual hapend, but
I felt something or someone leaving the room in a hurry!!
I don't know what had happend if something indeed had materialise in front of my eyes.

After this happens,within 3 months my grandfather had passed away!!

This is similar to the so called sleep paralysis in which the person is not fully awake. Although one is aware of one's surroundings, the subconcious is very much in an active state. I had a similar experience once in which it felt like a cat was walking up the bed sheets towards my face! Couple this with not being able to move or call out, and you have one hell of a fright.

I wonder if this was a Shadow Person you saw? They live in another demention. But they are ususally short shadows. Some have said they seem to be wearing a hat, a wide brimmed hat. but no face just like you said. most people see them out of the corner of their eye. if you turn your head and look directly at them you usually dont see them. and they move rather quickly. they dont want us to see them for some reason. but yours sounds a little different, as if maybe it wanted you to see it? It may have been something different. Best to have run! I think possibly the little Shadow People co-exist with us in a different plain, another demention. The tall ones I wonder about, they feel more ominous, they tend to be seen and felt differently. I have seen a small shadow person moving quickly out of the corner of my eye. many many times in the past. but never seen a tall shadow, and dont care too either. I have heard things such as what Kim above has to say, and do have to wonder about the energy sucking shadows???? Still get a feeling that the small or rather short ones are harmless.

Right above my comp. desk I think one lives. I see it atleast once every time I get on.

It was around 8 at night and i was sitting on my bed reading a book, now (this was when i was a teenager which was about 4-5 years ago) i had two single beds in my room and the large dress mirror in question was between them hanging on the wall. now when i was reading i got the feeling i was being watched by something so i continued to read after about ten minutes i decided to look up there in the mirror was a black shadow in the shape of a person. next thing you know i dive bombs down so it can't be seen! it scared me so much

My math teacher was really into the supernatural. He said he had a basement bedroom which was really dark all the time. Once he saw a figure that was darker than the pitch black room which was as you discribed it: humanoid but no features.

One day in 2000 I was playing video game in my house (I was alone in home), I was playing MegaMan X for SNES when suddenly I saw a slim shadow looking at me in the door of my bedroom, it looked like a stick man. I was really scared, it was moving its body, but it had no mouth, nose, ears or eyes, just a shadow, it dissapeared few seconds after that. Nowadays, I still get scared of looking at the door of mmy bedroom sometimes.

It had no eyes yet it was looking at you....

Back when I used to go "ghost hunting" all of the time, there were two cemeteries in which these shadow people would apear.

Pine Groce cemetery had one that scared the living day light out of me. It was during the winter and my cousin and I were to afraid to travel back to the car by using the road since it went right into this spot that was pure blackness. So, we decided to go through the cemetery, but, the cemetery is a huge hill and it was covered in ice. For like ten minutes we just crawled up the hill and then slid down by accident.

Well we were almost to the top when my cousin slipped once again, knocked me over, and we bolled slid down a few feet before I grabbed a grave stone and he grabbed my feet. Just then I turned and out of the darkness that the road went into, this rather tall shadow person walked out slowly. I quietly turned my cousins head towards it and he started to freak out. lol I wish I still had the audio of it.. But uhh he jumped up and started using the grave stones as a way to get to the top. This thing was so scary.

While looking at it I felt as if the thing was trying to get into my head or something. It was far away though. And it walked as slow as Michael Myers. But it felt like it was right there trying to get inside my head or something. My cousin ended up having to drag me up the hill because I was so into looking at this thing and couldnt look away (it was one of my first ghost sightings)

I really felt as if this thing did something to me though. My cousin, friends and family all say I acted very different after that. I no longer slept, I was cranky all the time, I thought about quiting school.. it was a bad time. I went I think it was three days without sleep. On the fourth day somewhere around 10am I remember lying on my bedroom floor (skipping school) thinking about running away and the image of this thing flashed into my head and I just broke down and cried for an hour.

Supposedly I fell asleep soon after cause my dad said he found me asleep on the floor and he put me in my bed. When I woke up I was fine. Back to my old self. But I cannot go into that cemetery anymore without thinking about that thing. My cousin swears it possessed me or something but I dont know what to think.

The shadow person in the other cemetery never had such an effect on me. It always seemed to just linger around. It was always hunched over and moving along the rock wall in the cemetery. The cemetery by the way is called Gun Town cemetery in CT. I guess the warrens have been there. But it never really did anything but snoop around and kind of check us out. The other one though stood tall and just slowly walked toward us. Scary stuff..

I wrote that cause I had a strong feeling of being watched, even that I don't know if the shadow was actually looking at me.

i personally have seen this kind of apparition. i was sitting working on my computer one night and suddenly i see this black almost smoke -like (it was so thick it was almost liquid-like) come from behind me, cross in front of me, and dissappear through the opposite wall.
ive havent seen it before or since but ive had other encounters. some deep resonating, hostile voices, object being hidden from me when i KNOW i left them somewhere and returned when i request them back (i.e. i yell at them to return them )
no harm has ever been done to me and oddly enough im not scared. most of the time things happen too fast to be scared of them and the events are far and few between.
i guess i just know that there's not much they can do to me and i refuse to live in fear of what appears to be a mischievous ghost.
also im am not prone to hearing voices (no schizophrenia or hallucinations via drugs) and i have no stereo or audio equipment on when these things happen.

What are those shadow people up to?

HENGE WITCH - I have seen these beings a few times over my life. You should never be scared of these beings as they are not as powerful as you are. i have seen them stand next to my bed as well as outside one time when i cut through a wooded park at night. this park was devoid of any trees. ther was a small lake in the center and small hills that surrounded. This being acted like a demon in its movements, it seemed to be looking for something. it crossed my path turned to look at me then dissappeared right in front of me. I have seen them in my house at night and they have seemed to have awoken me from my sleep. they are itimidating. i have seen many other beings in my life and feel blessed for this gift of sight. we are able to see for a reason and i urge you to try and look deeper within yourself for the reasons why. i had a dream many times where a beautiful woman named jaden told me that miracles and signs are all around us everday and that they hide in the mundane. she said that it was the small things that matter most. you can see things as luck, miracles, angels, demons its up to you. maybe like me seeing these things are a way for something to prove to you that the world is more than it seems that the waters run much deeper than you think and that you must find a way to see the truth the miracles that are abound for you.

I've also seen them. each time i enter my house i always have the living room light on and everything elses is dark or dim . when you look at the hall way from the living room theres the shadow guy. iv'e seen him alot of times not just in my house but in places that are crowded or like bushy you might know. he might be my gaurdian angel or my conciense. whatever it is it was hurt me.......YET.

I've had quite a few experiences with shadows. I can't say that any of them had a humanly shape and in fact most of the ones I've seen were either blob like or looked similar to huge spiders or something with long spindly legs.

The most recent was actually in the mid afternoon on Friday as I was taking a nap I woke up to see something large crawling on the wall opposite where I was facing and it crawled over the edge of the doorway. Scared the crap out of me as that was the first time I'd seen something like that in the broad daylight.

(The reason I found this site was actually researching this matter because I am confused on what it is that I've been experiencing)


And the most scary one: About 6 months ago I woke up to see a "thing" standing next to my bed. It was short and it's body was completely black except for it's face, which looked human like. The body actually resembled a bear's shape, but much smaller like the size of a dog. It was staring right in my face. I freaked out and closed my eyes and thought to myself "wake up! You're seeing things.. there's nothing there"

Then I opened my eyes to see it was still there and blinked. I freaked out and jumped out of bed and turned on the light. That experience actually made me sleep with the light on for months. Now I sleep with a sleep mask because of that and several other crawling things on the walls that I've seen in the middle of the night.

Ooooo Ooooo, I can help with this one!!! I have, a picature!!! I call him moe, he is on the right side of the cematery and he is very mad because he lost his puppy, or maybe because I peed on his grave...... ......one of those two.

well, shadow beings or whatever they is don't make much sence to me.
I think they is just imagination or soming...
