Around here. if we find some funky dead thing we can't quite identify, we poke it with a stick. No way do we pick it up and start flinging it around.

I have to agree. Unless the thing is full of musical funk, it's poked with a stick. yes.gif

If we find something dead around here...We call the local disposal office...as it is normallly a skunk.

It looks like a very large.. amphipod, but the legs are not amphipod like and neither is the front end of the body.

For people suggesting that it may be a 'Robber Crab' or a Large Hermit, look at the geographical area.

There is no way this was carried up by the gulf stream, as this is on the opposite coast and it cannot be a tropical or even subtropical species.

My final presumption is that it is a Slipper Lobster.

The picture seems to have exaggerated the size.
