I ws not going to post this but a lot of kids at my school said I should. In a forest a couple of miles away from my school there is ( or so many kids came ) there is group things that eat teenage boys, from what I hear they look like teenage girls. and try to lead guys deep in to the woods were they disappear, they don't bother woman, little boys, and old men. I don't what to think about cause everyone says there real. I would have but this in urban legends but I have heard some Very odd cries, like nothing I ever heard before, so what do you think?
^SolidSnake^
May 7 2006, 06:38 PM
That sounds like a very common urban legend. The story is quite well known in your town right, chances are kids trying to freak people out making them noises. Or there could be something out there....

ummm, why don't you investigate? Go to the library to find if there have been any disappearences, and check the websites of local papers. More often than not you can find past stories there.
I would say Urban Legend, but you never know. There could be some crazy git living in the forest...

One problem:
Notice how the story tells that the group only targets teenage boys? Well that is because whoever made the story up wanted it to get spread around the school so that every STUDENT would be afraid go enter the forest. They also knew that only gullible teens and children would believe this story, so they said that the group only targets teens.

You don't know animal sounds...You don't even know basic zoology from your past comments! I am 99% sure you heard a regular forest critter (owl or such)...They can make haunting noises...
The other 1% is that you are making up he part about the sound.

... deer stags? They can emit the most spine tinglingly, blood freezingly chilling howls in the rutt! My gran has a caravan beside a loch in Perthshire, and in the Autumn holidays I remember (this is like almost every year for the past ten) lying in bed listening to the stags howl and feel a shiver! Trust me dude, as Frogfish has said, there are many animals out there that you wouldn't dream had a particular call, and some certainly the stuff of nightmares. There is a seabird, I can't remember waht it's called, but there's a huge colony of them on an island in off the west coast of Scotland, and they are known for their calls which sound like a banshee, or a spirit of the dead. In fact, there's a story about one man who threw himself off a cliffside on the island after being stranded and had to spend the night there... What actually happened was he heard the wailing and ran... just ran. I think they found the body in the water the next day, broken by the rocks. Can't remember if there was someone with him or not though... I'm presuming so.

Coming from a zoology major...convincing enough?
It was most likely a screech owl or another furry forest friend.

Old Swedish myth for y'all: Skogsrå. I don't know any English name for them (Roe? Roh?), but either way they're said to be beautiful nekkid women who lure unwary men into the forest, where they're lost forever. The way to determine whether it's a real woman or a Roe is to get a look at her back, which on Roes is completely hollowed out.
Dunno what one of them'd be doing in the US though.
