I am me
The Wii looks pretty cool. Super Mario Galaxy looks good. Zelda is shipping as two different games, the Wii game with wide screen and progresive scan and the regulare Game Cube version. Both will work on the Wii but only one works with the Wii controller. It releases the same day as the Wii.

All of these new games, even a Resident Evil for the Wii. The Dragon Quest game has me drooling too. Dragon Quest 8 is one of my favorite RPGs to date. A lot better than the last few FF games.

I want a PS3 but damn...I'm not paying $600 for one. Hell I don't even want to pay $500 for one. $400 is still too much. If it ever drops to $300 or less I may pick it up, but that is still too much money for a damn video game system.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii revealed with....Solid Snake?! blink.gif

QUOTE
During E3 Last year, Miyamoto approached Masahiro Sakurai, the series creator and now independent developer, insisting that he make a new Smash Bros. To make it happen, Nintendo put together a team to assist Sakurai. The result is Super Smash Bros. Brawl, one of the first Wii titles to avoid motion-controlled attacks.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be fully compatible with the GameCube controller. Sakurai's reasoning is simple. He doesn't want to alienate gamers that prefer the traditional gamepad.

The game will feature online multiplayer. Singel-player mode will see some changes, but Sakurai has declined to elaborate. Miyamoto did say (via translator) that we can expect "a very robust" single-player mode.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl will not be a launch title. Sakurai has confirmed a 2007 release.

Kojima begged Sakurai to include Snake in the GameCube version of Smash Bros., but it was too late in the development cycle to add the character. When Brawl became a reality, Sakurai contacted Kojima and the decision was made to introduce Snake into the series. Solid Snake will use explosives ... and a cardboard box.

Snake is the only thrid party character confirmed for Brawl. Sakurai has confirmed that other third party characters are a definite possible. There was talk of Sonic...

Well Wii lineup so far has indeed been very impressive. Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Twilight Princess, Red steel and many many more. Although having a 190 minute wait from where the signs end to get to the playable Wii games is unbelievable, the lines just keep getting bigger and bigger. The wait would be worth it though!

I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of games coming to the DS over the next 12 months. Especially the big name ones such as Mini Mario, Starfox, Zelda, Diddy Kong racing, Children of Man and these are just the Nintendo titles! happy.gif

E3 2006: More Metroid 3 Secrets Unveiled
New gameplay and release date info inside.
by Peer Schneider

May 10, 2006 - In an interview with the Retro Studios team, IGN Wii learned today that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption will indeed be a launch game for Nintendo Wii. Developed from the ground up for the new platform and its unique controllers, Metroid will arrive alongside The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess offering up a first-party double punch when the console ships this holiday season.

Like its predecessors, the game will not feature an online mode for competitive multiplay -- however, support of the system's 24-hour-connection is under consideration. This would allow Nintendo to push upgrades and additional content to Metroid Prime 3: Corruption owners with wireless connections even when the console is switched off.

Retro Studios also confirmed that Metroid Prime 3 will depart from the light and dark world setup introduced in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and instead feature large areas to explore on multiple worlds. Though Samus will use her new gunship to travel between planets, players hoping to pilot Samus Aran's new gunship may be disappointed to hear that they will not be able to pilot the ship themselves. Travel between areas likely occurs only in cutscene form. That's not to say that the ship doesn't feature a large role in the game, however. Retro hinted at a new visor mode that lets Samus command her ship from the ground. For example, she can use the gunship uplink to blow up obstacles in her way and gain access to new areas.

Though the other visors are still being kept a secret, Retro did confirm that the X-Ray visor will return and play a bigger part in both combat and puzzle solving. Used in conjunction with a new beam that is able to shoot through walls, players will be able to detect obscured enemies and take them out safely.

The developer is also hard at work on polishing the graphics in the game to make it a noticeable step up over the previous titles. Retro has added new bloom effects and much more complex particle systems for even bigger fireworks. The target framerate for the final game is a smooth 60 frames per second.

Cool snake on SMB

Wow Sony is getting it from gamers all over the net on its price tag. An opinion poll from Japan D+ Media asked gamers whose showing they liked the most at E3 74% went to Nintendo 15% to the X-box and 11% to Sony. You know your doing something wrong when the Japanese liked the X-box 360 over your own system.

Huh? What did you expect, with two new unknown systems that people want to know more about... compared to one thats already out. Its like comparing a movie thats been out for a year, to a couple that are just about to hit the cinema's... They are OBVIOUSLY going to have more hype about them.....

I can't really see how you can criticise Xbox's 360 for being much the same, when I can't see the big difference about the PS3....

You're absolutely right, that's a very good point.
That's also, in my opinion, something that seems to be working out as abit of a double-edged sword for MS. While releasing the console practically a full year before PS3 did at the time seem like a good idea, and naturally i'm sure it will allow MS to get alot more sales since it's the only 'Next-Gen' system out currently, it's also pushing interest for it aside because as you said, everyone now wants to know about what else is out there.
I still think for the most part an early release is working out pretty well for them though, even if they do have hardly any games that aren't on XBOX or PS2 currently.

But your second point, are you kidding me? The PS2 is *not* a good system, it's been extremely far behind the XBOX the whole time both the consoles were out, there's no question about that. And now trailers are being shown on PS3 left and right with in-game graphics that rival FF7: Advent Children. There's a HUGE difference between PS2 and PS3, it's like the difference between SNES and N64. That's pretty momumental.

Granted, as always, PS and XB will always be undoubtably similar since they're both rival technologies. There wont be a big difference between the two.

In my opinion, i suppose alot more was expected of the 360 then what MS were able to give, because the XBox in itself was a good console that did surpass the PS2 by miles, even if it's games selection was not for everyone.
i feel that MS's mistake here was to push the 360 out as soon as they could. The better idea would have been to wait at least a year. But, of course, the 360 is still new and no one has really bothered to push it to it's potentials yet.

That will change.

GRAND THEFT AUTO 4 was annouced at E3, and bad bad news for the PS3. It'll be on PS3, but only on the 360 will it be a real amazing game, since the story will be, it seems, mostly downloadable content and the world of GTA could simply be built, on 360, by what you choose to download. PS3, they're stuck with a linear.. well, whatever.

Yes, but in your negativity about the 360 you seem to think that ps3 owns it, when all its done is catch up..... From where I sit, I get the feeling that microsoft are trying to make more quality on every level, rather then make the machine better, only to never have its other capabilities tapped into... Microsoft seem to be the only company putting its effort into lots of areas, such as Live (which whether you like it or not, is one of the reasons TO get xbox)....

I don't feel i've been that negative about it. I just speak my honest opinions of all the consoles. I certainly don't think that any of the consoles currently stand miles above the rest, that's a common misconception i've tried to removed many times but it always seems to come back to me somehow. Apologies if i give that opinion.
In short, i don't like Live gaming, and i don't like one single game the Xbox ever released that was not on another console. So naturally, my opinion of it would be affected by such things. But i will always be the first person to point out that the Xbox in itself was indeed miles about the PS2 and easily of course the better system, regardless of what words certain members like to put into my mouth.

My opinion of the 360 was and continues to be tainted by the, once again in my opinion, terrible decisions that surround it. Naturally it's potential has barely begun to be tapped, and i don't expect we'll see full-out Next Gen games until a couple years down the road yet. That was the point i was trying to make with Grand Theft Auto 4, i feel that game having been made an Xbox360 exclusive will really show just what the 360 can do in terms of, as you said, the 360 improving and giving attention to detail in other areas not just as a console itself. But really, at the moment it can't be denied that it's just a very large waste of money. It's library right now consists of games that were released on Xbox and even PS2 over a year before it's release. hrmm.

It's my firm belief that the 360 will dominate fully live online gameplay and the multiplayer world of gaming.
But that doesn't interest me in the slightest bit. What does, is seeing the amazingly beautiful graphics and gameplay etc of one-player games, to get lost in artificial worlds such as Final Fantasy XIII. Did you SEE that!? Breathtaking. And i believe the PS3 will be a better console for the individual single-player gamer, such as myself.

That is all i have ever said.

The last E3 in itself was a pretty large letdown on the whole for the most part. Yes, the consoles were released and everyone was immensly excited to see the new world of gaming... and it never came. What we got from Sony was a massive amount of empty promises and lies to try and boast their standing. What we got from MS was the 360, fully playable with.. nothing to play on it to show it off. And well, we don't need to even get into Nintendo showing off it's Wii-Wii.

I will say that i expect 360 sales to soar above PS3 sales for the first year or so past the PS3 release, mainly because of price difference. For me it's going to cost 660$! Phew!

I do want to add, now it's been revealed that PS3's controller is Gyro-control, to a lesser extent than Nintendos, i wonder if MS will bother to bring one out as well? If not there's no question that would be limiting the control placed on 360 games, and PS3 would have an edge, even if it is a small one.

Sorry for long posts mate! Slow day at work. ;lol:

When asked about this one of the microsoft people said that when they first released the 360 they were looking at those types of controllers, however they had controllers like that out for PC... and they never came in useful as only a few games really used the function.... so they decided not to go ahead with it.
BurnSide
I agree with that decision.
There's not really any point for the PS to have Gyro sensitivity. All it really does, in it's basic, is adds one or two extra buttons to the controller.

Back to E3 at large.

Arguably, one of the biggest things revealed and shown at E3 this year is Metal Gear Solid 4: Sons of Liberty. From what we've seen it's completely pushing the boundaries of anything we've ever seen in a videogame before.

I'd like to take a post to reflect on this groundbreaking masterpiece in the making.

QUOTE
Snake: "War has changed. Nations are no longer about ideals, the profits are no longer for the people, mercenaries for the highest bidder, construction of unmanned weapons, an endless cycle of proxy wars. The wars that claim lives have changed into a business with no rational for pain.

War has changed. ID registrated soldiers, possessing ID registrated arms, using ID registrated weapons. Nanomachines within their bodies manages ability growth, as well as promotions. Genome control, information control, emotional control, battlefield control. Everything is managed and regulated.

War has changed. The times have shifted from deterrence to control, and with that the catastrophe of Weapons of Mass Destruction have been evaded. With the control of the battlefield possible, so then is the control of history.

War has changed. With the controlled management of battlefields, war has become an omnipresent thing."

The main cast in the game will be the same as the first MGS. Solid Snake will reprise his role as the main character, although this game is set years into the future and he is quite an old man at this point. His radio man will be Campbell, with Naomi, Otacon, Meryl and even Liquid Snake all making regular appearences. Not to mention, Raiden is back, and Raiden is changed. He's now FREAKING BADASS.

user posted image

The first trailer shown was relatively short, basically with Raiden jumping around like a Ninja with Optic camo cutting up robots to tiny pieces. At the end his Ninja gear (IE same as MGS1 and 2) opens up and he says "It's my turn to protect you, Snake."
So his role is basically that of GreyFox, in MGS.

You can find the trailer posted up on gamespot.
But it gets better.

Next, Konami announced this little nugget. There's actually two MGS games coming shortly. MGS4, and MGS: Portable Ops for the PSP. Starting Big Boss from MGS3, it takes place shortly after.

QUOTE
Oh man, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. I've been waiting for a real MGS on the PSP since the system came out. Trailer starts with scenes of the Boss from Snake Eater. Portable Ops is set in 1970, six years after that game. You're playing as Big Boss, who's defected from the Fox unit but has been charged with treason. You have to disarm the Fox members leading the resistance, and take out the, uh, ultimate enemy. Metal Gear?

All the characters you'd expect from Snake Eater are in here. It's talking about building a team of characters? Quick menu shows someting about recruiting Eva and Ocelot. "Recruit members and create an online Wi-Fi squadron." Must be the multiplayer mode. The graphics in this look really exceptional for a PSP game--nearly up there with the PS2.

"What's it going to be? Loyalty to your country, or to yourself?"

"The tragedy of Big Boss. The missing link before the rise of Outer Heaven. Commence the inauguration of Foxhound."

I am so stupid for this series. Peyton: "Looks pretty cool, huh?" Rub it in. Okay, this is "set within the MGS lineage," so it's official canon. This further sets up the very first Metal Gear...looks sort of like Big Boss's fall from grace.

I'll throw in at this point, Kojima productions official site in which you can find the MGS4 trailers.

[attachmentid=25618]

These are pictures of Snake, looking over the battlefield, and Raiden, hopping up a Tank.

Now i want to mention at this point, the game takes place ALL OVER THE WORLD. So don't expect this to be it. We've only glimpsed one are so far, mostly.

ehehe. Fully approved, naturally.

One more piece of extremely exciting and amazing news.
Anyone who's played MGS3 will know the Camo system is pretty nifty, but tedious.
Well, have you been wondering why Snake is wearing that ridiculous sneaking suit?

[attachmentid=25619]

Check this out:

QUOTE
Kojima wouldn't divulge info on the weapons but explains Snake's new suit, dubbed the OCTOCAM, takes the camouflage system from MGS3 to the next level but rather than using camouflage to blend in with the environment the suit actually changes not only to the environment it's touching but also adopts the texture too.

Push against a wall, and his costume will blend into the wall! Lie in grass and moss, and his costume will immediately take on the colouring and texture of the grass and moss. HOW AMAZING IS THAT!?

So seriously guys, check out the trailer, if you can. You'll be glad you did.

E3 2006: It's a Wrap
Matt sums up the show, links to the biggest stories and gives you his picks for Best of E3. Is Nintendo the big winner?
by Matt Casamassina
May 12, 2006 - The bell sounded throughout the Los Angeles Convention Center at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, signaling the end of the Electronics Entertainment Expo 2006. Perhaps we imagined it, but it almost seemed that we could hear the simultaneous relief sighs of videogame journalists and pained sobs of fanboys still waiting in line for the chance to go hands-on with Super Mario Galaxy for Nintendo Wii.

This year's show was one of the best. Not only did we witness the unveilings of two new systems in Wii and Sony PlayStation 3, but also Microsoft stepped up with second-generation software for its Xbox 360 console. As a result, there were some great new pieces of hardware and yet nearly all of it took a backseat to the innovative games on the floor, which were in bulk regardless of whose booth you visited.
We went into E3 2006 unconvinced of the Wii name or the machine's potential and walked away from the Convention Center knowing for certain that Nintendo has another hit on its hands. Wii is everything we were hoping it might be, as evidenced by spectacular games such as Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The Big N's new platform may lack the graphic horsepower of competitor PlayStation 3, but its innovative controller stole the show right out from underneath Sony's collective feet.

Warhawk looked fabulous. Heavenly Sword superb. But neither game packed Sony's booth. On the other hand, Nintendo's space was filled to the spilling point from the very moment the E3 doors opened until they closed again. On the second day of the exhibition, representatives for the Convention Center announced that the line to see Nintendo's Wii console, which zigzagged around corners and promised a wait time of more than four hours, had broken every E3 record.

The Big N seemed to have come to E3 2006 with a few goals in mind. First, to show why Wii was different from its competitors and yet still accomplished. Second, to educate gamers on the controller and a new way to play. And third, to have fun. This last point was something that could almost be felt from the moment the Big N kicked off its media briefing event, in which Shigeru Miyamoto took the stage and conducted a virtual symphony using the Wii-mote, and Iwata and Reggie casually squared off in a couple games of Wii Sports Tennis. Click here to see it all in action.

Even our interviews with the company's top executives seemed to move at a slower, carefree pace. Nintendo seemed for once legitimately unconcerned with what its competitors were doing and unflinchingly convinced of its own pursuits. This attitude is perhaps best illustrated by the nonchalant chat we had NOA's VP of corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan, which took place (literally) on the E3 show floor. That's right, click this link to see it..

Nintendo hasn't always blown us away at E3. There have been some years we'd like to forget and we'd be willing to bet that folks from the Big N itself would agree with our sentiments. But as far as success stories go, E3 2006 belonged to the company. It had the hardware, the games, and the attitude, and we aren't merely stating so because we're the Nintendo editors. Just click on our Day 3 show wrap and you'll see that nearly every IGN editor queried is in agreement that the Big N took this year's event.

Really, how could it not? The Wii-mote performed exactly as Nintendo promised, opening up a new avenue for simpler, more intuitive games. Wii Sports Baseball was both graphically primitive and mechanically basic. And yet, the process of swinging a virtual bat with the Wii-mote was undeniably fun and entertaining in a manner completely impossible with a traditional controller. In a matter of minutes, using Nintendo's new pointer seemed almost second nature, as a round or two with its astonishing new platformer, Super Mario Galaxy, easily demonstrated. The company's revolutionary remote and by association the Wii console earned my pick for hardware of the show, besting Sony's far more powerful, but relatively uneventful PlayStation 3.

Meanwhile, despite heavy competition from such Xbox 360 games as Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War and Assassin's Creed, Super Mario Galaxy's spot-on control and superb level designs earned it my pick for Game of the Show. By the way, it looks pretty damned good, too. If I had to pick a runner-up, it'd go to Bioshock, whose unbelievable concept and oozing atmosphere set it a notch above most everything else.

Other honorable mentions include Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. The Wii-mote control definitely improved the franchise's experience and even the short demo featured some satisfying surprises, like a sweet fight with Ridley as Aran plummeted down an abyss, but the lack of a quick 180-turn solution proved a bit problematic. I've got my fingers crossed that developer Retro Studios will work this out. If not, Corruption will still be amazing. But if the 180-turn makes it in, too, then the game could really set a new first-person control bar for home consoles.

Wii Sports Tennis isn't exactly a graphical showcase, but it is a gameplay one; the title's simplified controls just worked and proved to be a lot of fun. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess may end up being the best game of the year. However, E3 is not a good venue for the title as it is an adventure than runs much deeper than the time permits on the show floor. Excite Truck captured the hearts of several IGN editors, many of whom initially thought it was going to be clumsy or stupid. And finally, games like WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Elebits, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, Sonic Wild Fire and more were a lot of fun. Guess what, haters? I happened to like Madden's controls, too - EA really put some time into this new game of football and it shows.

E3 2006 officially kicked off on Wednesday and ended on Friday, which seems from the outside looking in to be fairly short. However, for the Nintendo team at IGN, which included Dan Iverson, JKR, Mark Bozon and I, preparing for the event actually began much earlier. For instance, I played five or six Wii games including Metroid and Zelda on the Sunday prior to E3 and had to prep write-ups for the event. I haven't bothered to check over how many stories hit our Wii channel during the three-day show, but I can tell you that it's well into the hundreds. So while I'm thrilled with Wii and its games, I'm also overjoyed that the show is over.

Wii was not only the hit of E3 - it was the big hit with IGN's readership, too. IGN Wii consistently had the biggest traffic during the event, undoubtedly thanks to whopping revelations like the Super Smash Bros. Brawl trailer, which shouldn't be missed! It was and is amazing. A couple million - yes, million - unique readers tuned into IGN Wii in as many days to check out our updates and download media.

It's normally during our E3 wrap-ups that I take the time to link our biggest stories - and I have in fact included a couple links in my write-up - but this year, I'm going to instead send viewers to our official E3 page. You'll be able to find every story and every piece of media we posted on a single page, which makes the process incredibly convenient. Simply follow the link below and you'll be set.

Nintendo fans, 2006 is going to be a huge year. I've played Wii and it is as good as the Big N promises. The IGN Nintendo team thanks you for tuning into E3 2006 and we hope you enjoyed our coverage. It is just the beginning. We've got a legitimate console now, some huge games are on the way, and we're going to do our best to make sure you're on the cutting-edge of Wii developments. Tune in next week for more videos and after-show impressions. Until then, go out and celebrate. If E3 2006 proved anything, it's that Nintendo fans have a lot to be happy about.
